We are quite some away from seeing Marvel’s Secret Invasion debut on Disney+, but we have been given what Samuel L. Jackson is going to look like as this new version of Nick Fury. His new updated look and costume were uncovered by a new Funko Pop toy that is being released, showing what Fury will look like in the new series. We would have to say that he looks to be a bit more incognito with this new look, as he is sporting his signature leather jacket and beanie. However, one thing of note is that Fury has ditched his iconic eye patch for a more contemporary adhesive bandage of sorts that is marked with an “X.” We are not sure if this is going to be relevant to his character, but the new costume does look great. At least, its design is to keep Fury hidden from the Skrulls who might replace him.
Secret Invasion will follow Nick Fury as he teams up with notable Skrull, Talos. They will band together to stop the invasion of the Skrulls, which are shape-shifting aliens that have invaded every aspect of life on Earth. Samuel L. Jackson will take on the role of Fury once again with Ben Mendelsohn reprising his role as Talos. Joining them are Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross, and Don Cheadle as Rhodey. Olivia Colman will be portraying an old ally of Fury’s and Kingsley Ben-Adir will take on the main villain role. Emilia Clarke, Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald, and Carmen Ejogo have also been added in secret roles. The rumor is that Clarke is set to portray G’iah/Gloria Warner, who is a Skrull that initially aids in the invasion of Earth. However, she switches sides to help humanity after seeing the horrors that the Skrulls enact when invading the planet.
As previously mentioned, Secret Invasion will not be debuting until the spring of 2023. This leaves Marvel around six months to get everything ready, including ensuring that cameos are made to kept secret. Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania is meant to kick off Phase 5 of Marvel’s continuity. We know that Kang will serve as the chief villain in that film, which could mean he serves a purpose in Secret Invasion as well. Secret Invasion will be the second of the releases for Phase 5. Samuel L. Jackson could also pop in at some point before Secret Invasion. We would assume a cameo in either Black Panther 2 or Ant-Man and the Wasp 2 would make sense to set up Secret Invasion.
Samuel L. Jackson has been one of the best and most dedicated actors in the MCU. While most of the people he helped bring together are now long gone, it is great to see that Jackson is going to be part of Marvel’s plans for the foreseeable future. Well, until he is killed off, which we hope is not anytime soon. We have to wait some time to see his new costume in action, but again, he could appear in some other MCU entry long before Secret Invasion is released.
