The mid-credit scene in Taika Waititi‘s Thor: Love and Thunder stoked a lot of excitement among fans who were happily surprised when Marvel introduced the arrival of Hercules in the best way possible. Played by Ted Lasso’s Brett Goldstein, (which was enough of a reason for some folks to lose their minds), the character’s costume was on point all the way down to his sandals. And now, thanks to Marvel Studios’ Director of Visual Development and Concept Artist Andy Park, those of us who were hoping for a closer look at the early drafts of the costume are getting it via a post to the artist’s Twitter page, which you can see above.

In the first look, we see the son of Zeus geared up and ready to take on his enemies. Just like in the Marvel comic books, Hercules’ color palette is green and gold with shades of brown including the gladiator-style sandals that cover both of the character’s legs. Complete with cufflinks, shoulder armor, and his signature weapon, the adamantine mace, Andy Park and his team absolutely hit the nail on the head with their design.

Although he only had a brief cameo in Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder, it’s clear that the studio has some big plans for the muscle-bound Hercules. After his father, Zeus (Russell Crowe) faced Thor’s (Chris Hemsworth) wrath and looked to be killed (spoiler: he wasn’t!) the God of Gods is back for revenge and plans to send his son after the God of Thunder. It’s been a long time coming for Hercules to make his way into the MCU and come face-to-face with Thor as that’s how the character was originally introduced into the comics back in the 1960s, so there really is a lot of source material for Marvel to work with here.

Thor: Love and Thunder marked the return of Taika Waititi’s take on the Thor universe following Thor: Ragnarok, and dropped the titular Avenger into his biggest battle yet, both against Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher and the illness swiftly taking hold of his true-love, Jane (Natalie Portman). With Jane’s help, who harnesses the power of Mjölnir which then transforms her into Mighty Thor, as well as the aid of Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Thor takes on the God Butcher in a race against time. While the action of the film was great, Marvel fans always have the same “come for the movie, stay for the post-credits” vibe, which allowed the anticipation to properly build before both Zeus’ fate and Hercules’ entrance were revealed.

With the approaching release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the MCU will be closing the doors on its Phase 4 and soon reopening Phase 5 with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. While we’re excited to see all the new projects coming from Marvel’s next chapter, including new seasons of shows like Loki, the debut of Secret Invasion, and the highly anticipated feature Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, it’s unclear as to when we’ll see Hercules again. With no set plans for the next installment in Thor’s story, we’ll need to bide our time and speculate on when or where The Lion of Olympus will be seen next.
