Everyone is patiently waiting to see the new Hocus Pocus 2 film. Thankfully, we all won’t have to wait for that much longer, as the sequel film is set to debut on Disney+ next month. We have been granted some behind-the-scenes images of the Sanderson sisters, but not much else about the film yet. However, Entertainment Weekly and Disney+ decided to hype up the world even more by providing a first-look image of an iconic character from the first film. That character is none other than Billy Butcherson, who is expertly played by Doug Jones. You can see the image of him below:
Fans might notice that not much has changed with Billy Butcherson, and honestly, we are glad that it hasn’t. It would be quite odd for a man that buried himself back into the ground would come out of the ground looking a different way. Naturally, there is going to be a contemporary feel to Hocus Pocus 2, but that doesn’t have to involve Billy at all. In fact, Jones was recently interviewed about bringing the character back to life. He spoke about the wig and the costume being styled in the same way it was for the character when he played him in the 1990s. According to Jones, “It was the exact same wig, they had it on a dummy on display for 29 years, they put it back on my head in the same style, it didn’t even need a touch-up.” For a piece of film, memorabilia to not be touched for 29 years is quite astounding. It also adds an even better zombie flare to Billy.
From what we know, Billy Butcherson is going to be playing the same role as he did in the first Hocus Pocus film. He is going to be an ally to the two girls that mistakenly relight the black candle again. So, Billy will once again have his shot at stopping the Sanderson sisters and their aim to likely take all the children. Billy was killed by Winifred Sanderson (Bette Midler) in the 1600s, so he is likely all about wanting to get revenge in any way possible. Also, he was some great comedic relief, so we are glad he is going to be returning in the new sequel film. There is going to be more backstory about Billy other than the already established murder of him at the hands of Winifred. We can’t wait to see this movie.
So far, there has only been a teaser trailer shown for Hocus Pocus 2. Disney+ seems to want to wait a bit longer to release the full trailer for the film, which should be coming sometime quite soon, considering the film is only a month away. More about the plot is sure to be revealed then, though we would presume the Sanderson sisters are going to be up to their old tricks again.
Hocus Pocus 2 will premiere on Disney+ on September 30th, which is the perfect time for the fall months to start rolling in. Joining Doug Jones in his reprisal of Billy Butcherson are Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, Sarah Jessica Parker, Whitney Peak, Lilia Buckingham, Hannah Waddingham, Tony Hale, and Sam Richardson.
