See Hugh Jackman And Tobey Maguire Together In The MCU
A fan on Instagram has made some incredible art that showcases Hugh Jackman and Tobey Maguire in the MCU together.
We know that Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine is going to make an appearance in the MCU in the upcoming Deadpool 3. We’ve already seen Tobey Maguire appear in the MCU as part of the dimension-defying Spider-Man: No Way Home that brought together all 3 Spider-Man actors. But what would it look like if Hugh Jackman and Tobey Maguire were part of the same universe?
Well, the Instagram artist spdrmnkyxxiii has answered the call, providing us with two images imagining what the pre-MCU Marvel actors would look like if they joined forces. The first image he posted shows both actors aged, battle-weary, and sporting significantly more facial hair than usual. Tobey is seen wearing the overcoat belonging to a little-known alternate universe version of Spider-Man who killed Kraven the Hunter and became a much darker anti-hero.
The second image calls back to both Hugh Jackman’s and Tobey Maguire’s original looks in the early-2000s original films.
Could such a scenario be possible? Well, now that the MCU has opened the pandora’s box of multidimensional travel following Avengers: Endgame and a slew of reality-defying follow-ups, it’s a distinct possibility. Hugh Jackman was reportedly in talks with Kevin Feige about appearing in Avengers: Secret Wars, and we have heard from some inside sources that both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will be appearing in the upcoming 2026 film, with even larger roles than they had in No Way Home.
Hugh Jackman, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield aren’t the only popular actors rumored to be appearing in the upcoming crossover film. Rumored appearances include Ian McKellen as Magneto, Famke Janssen as Jean Grey, Michael B. Jordan as Killmonger, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Chris Evans as Captain America, Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane, Josh Brolin as Thanos, and Wesley Snipes as Blade, and James Spader as Ultron. With that many returning actors to juggle, it’s no wonder that Secret Wars had to be delayed from its original November 2025 release date.
A movie of this magnitude was only possible after years worth of deals and acquisitions, due to Marvel’s fractured movie rights. 20th Century Fox acquired film rights to X-Men in 1994, and Sony Pictures Entertainment got the Spider-Man film rights in 1999, meaning that Hugh Jackman and Toby Maguire had no chance of appearing in a superhero film together during their original runs as Wolverine and Spider-Man. It wasn’t until Disney made a deal with Sony involving the use of the character for the 2016 Captain America: Civil War, and then acquired 20th Century Fox in 2019, that the characters ever had a chance of appearing together — but by then, Hugh Jackman and Tobey Maguire had already retired from their roles.
While it remains to be officially confirmed that Hugh Jackman, Tobey Maguire, or any other actors would appear in the upcoming film, it’s almost a guarantee that Marvel will make use of all the assets they have available to make Secret Wars the biggest MCU film yet. Given the lengths that Marvel has been going to pack its latest movies with returning characters, it would not be surprising if spdrmnkyxxiii’s piece becomes a reality.
