As HBO Max gears up for the upcoming fourth season of DC’s Titans, which will premiere on November 3, the official trailer has dropped and promises to see a different side to the character of Lex Luthor than previous iterations have reflected. The season 4 trailer was released to HBO Max’s official YouTube channel yesterday and has so far garnered over 379,000 views in the past 24 hours. The trailer depicts the Metropolis arrival of a dark version of Lex Luthor, played by Bosch actor Titus Welliver, who appears to have gotten caught up in the occult.
According to a report by Entertainment Weekly, Titus Welliver is apparently a huge fan of DC Comics and presumably jumped at the chance to join Titans as the supervillain Lex Luthor. Appearing with a long beard and signature bald head, the character looks to be more sinister than ever in a rebranding of sorts for the HBO Max hit series. Even though the character is a supervillain, unlike many of his counterparts and superheroes that surround him, he is one of the only humans to appear in the series as a villain.
Based on the DC Comics team Team Titans, HBO Max’s Titans enters its fourth season on the streamer with Lex Luthor joining the already established cast of characters, including Brenton Thwaites as Dick Grayson (Nightwing), Anna Diop as Kory Anders (Starfire), Teagan Croft as Rachel Roth (Raven), Ryan Potter as Gar Logan (Beast Boy), and Joshua Orpin as Conner (Superboy). Joining Titus Welliver in the upcoming season will be German actor Franka Potente as Mother Mayhem, as well as The Vampire Diaries alum Joseph Morgan as Brother Blood.
Before he joins Titans as Lex Luthor, actor Titus Welliver has seen his career grow from being a character actor in movies and television shows to being the lead of a streaming series for several seasons. Beginning with a career playing bit parts on successful television series like Matlock, L.A. Law, Beverly Hills: 90210, and NYPD Blue, Welliver jumped into larger roles in films directed by Ben Affleck like Gone Baby Gone, The Town, and Argo, while also juggling television roles on Deadwood and Sons of Anarchy. He embarked on the Amazon Prime Video series Bosch beginning in 2014, playing the lead role of Detective Hieronymus “Harry” Bosch for seven seasons on the subscription streaming platform, way before the streamer was known for successful shows like The Boys and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
As for Titans, the introduction of Lex Luthor to the bunch might be met with intrigue and suspense going into season 4 of the series. The show began in 2018 on DC Universe before premiering the third season on HBO Max. The upcoming fourth installment will be a 12-episode season that will see the young team of superheroes centers their focus on the city of Metropolis, while they continue their adventures in battling it out against the forces of evil to solve crimes, both from a supernatural perspective and against their human adversaries.
