Bruce Campbell Had An Awesome Secret Cameo In Evil Dead Rise
Bruce Campbell reprised his famous role in a voice cameo in The Evil Dead Rise.
Bruce Campbell made a surprise cameo in Evil Dead Rise. The actor, who portrayed Ash Williams in previous installments of the Evil Dead franchise, is heard in a recording found by Beth (Lily Sullivan). The character delivers a warning about the dangers of the Deadites and says Necronomicon was “called the Book of the Dead for a reason.”
Although fans were excited that Bruce Campbell was included in some capacity, most believed he was portraying a different character due to the apparent passage of time. However, director Lee Cronin told Insider the recorded voice could be Ash Williams. “Think about how time works for Ash as a character, and that voice that you may hear is captured on something that was recorded 100 years ago.”
Cronin added that the warning “showcases somebody that knows more than the other people,” which is a cryptic nod to Bruce Campbell’s famed character. “I know that sounds very cryptic, but it’s supposed to,” the director added. It’s not surprising that Ash Williams would make an appearance in Evil Dead Rise.
Portrayed by Bruce Campbell, Ash Williams is the protagonist of the popular horror franchise which began with The Evil Dead in 1981. In the first film, Ash is a college student who, along with his friends, decides to visit a remote cabin in the woods. They accidentally awaken an ancient evil force that possesses and turns them into monstrous demons.
Throughout the movie, Ash fights for his survival and battles the evil spirits using improvised weapons such as a chainsaw and a shotgun. Bruce Campbell reprised his role in the sequels Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness. The stories see Ash continue his battle with demonic forces while being transported to different time periods and dimensions.
By the end of the third film, Ash becomes a skilled fighter, and his humorous personality becomes more prominent. He also gains his signature chainsaw hand. The Bruce Campbell character is also known for his sarcastic wit, bravado, and over-the-top one-liners. He is often portrayed with a flawed personality that makes him relatable to audiences.
Despite his flaws, Ash Williams is a hero at heart and is willing to risk his life to save others from the evil that plagues him. Although he didn’t star in 2013’s Evil Dead reboot, Bruce Campbell did deliver his signature catchphrase, “Groovy,” in a post-credits scene. As expected, the cameo delighted fans of the franchise.
Meanwhile, fans can catch the Bruce Campbell voice cameo in Evil Dead Rise, which is currently playing in theaters worldwide. Distributed by Warner Bros Pictures, the supernatural horror movie is written and directed by Lee Cronin. The story follows two estranged sisters whose reunion is cut short by flesh-possessing demons.
The pair is unexpectedly thrust into a primal battle for survival, facing the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.
