Before a de-aged Luke Skywalker appeared in the recent season finale of The Mandalorian, many fans hoped that the show might introduce Captain America: The Winter Soldier actor Sebastian Stan as a younger version of Skywalker. While The Mandalorian went a different way with their introduction of the iconic character, one video has taken a look at what Stan could have looked like as Skywalker in the original trilogy.
In this deepfake video, Mark Hamill’s face has been replaced by Sebastian Stan, and the resemblance is uncanny. At times, it’s almost hard to tell which is Hamill and which is Stan, and the several side-by-side looks at the real version and the fake version make the similarities even more glaring. If Jon Favreau and The Mandalorian team had decided to go with Stan, this video proves that he would have been an excellent choice to play the young Jedi.
But even without Sebastian Stan appearing in The Mandalorian, Disney+ is about to get plenty of the actor. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is set to premiere on March 19, 2021, after WandaVision has come to an end. The show will only be six episodes, and will be only the second series so far to be set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes / Winter Soldier will team up with Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson / Falcon to fight a team known as the Flag-Smashers. At the end of Avengers: Endgame, Steve Rogers decided to pass the mantle of Captain America on to Wilson. In addition to showing Barnes and Wilson fighting together, the show will also focus on Wilson’s unwillingness to accept Rogers’ shield and refusal to become the next Captain America.
In addition to Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will also feature Daniel Brühl, reprising his role as Baron Helmut Zemo, and Emily VanCamp, who will return as Sharon Carter. Wyatt Russell will also play John F. Walker, a potential Captain America successor created by the U.S. government. Don Cheadle is also rumored to appear in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier as James Rhodes / War Machine.
Beyond appearing in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and reprising Bucky Barnes in the animated series What If…?, Stan also has a few projects in the works outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Stan will appear in The 355 from Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg. The 355 is a spy film that stars Jessica Chastain, Penélope Cruz, Lupita Nyong’o, and Diane Kruger. The film has been pushed a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will be releasing on January 14, 2022. Stan will also be starring in the thriller Fresh, which is said to currently be filming.
But with so many other Star Wars shows in production, and Sebastian Stan already a favorite of Disney, it’s not outside the realm of possibility to imagine Stan appearing as Luke Skywalker in a future film. If anything, this deepfake video proves that Stan would probably make a better Skywalker than the weird de-aging technology that was used for The Mandalorian.
