Trailers For Live-Action Heavy Metal TV Series Look Surprisingly Badass
The cult classic French SF magazine is coming to life overseas.
The classic French SF/fantasy magazine Metal Hurlant, better known as Heavy Metal stateside, is being adapted into a live-action TV series. A French DVD company called We Productions is behind this latest Heavy Metal adaptation, and the good news is that it’s all set to premiere this November in France, and soon thereafter in the UK and Germany. The bad news? These trailers look kind of badass, and as of yet there is no word on when or if the show will premiere in the US. Check it out:
Entitled Métal Hurlant Chronicles, the show consists of two seasons and a total of 12 episodes, each one adapting a story originally published in the iconic magazine. The pilot is serving up live-action versions of the stories “Red Light” and “Cold Hard Facts.” The show also has plenty of familiar names filling out the cast, including Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner), Michael Jai White (Spawn), Kelly Brook (Piranha 3D), James Marsters (Buffy, Torchwood), and Michelle Ryan (The Bionic Woman, Doctor Who).
Métal Hurlant was launched in 1974 by the legendary comic artist Jean “Moebius” Giraud and Phillipe Druillet. It was previously adapted into cult favorite animated film back in 1981, and there was even a feature film version in the works from David Fincher and James Cameron at one point, but it seems to be dead now.
You can check out some stills from the show’s official Facebook page below, including but not limited to Kelly Brook killing people while wearing form-fitting leather. We’ll let you know when/if the show gets a premiere date here in the US.
