The Most Important Star Wars Character Of All Time Just Arrived On The Mandalorian
Star Wars just had its most important character show up in The Mandalorian finale.

Star Wars is filled with numerous important and memorable characters. We have already seen one such character make his return to the franchise in The Mandalorian. This definitely set the precedent for other familiar Star Wars characters to pop up on the show. And now, with The Mandalorian Season 2 having come to a close, it has just brought back a character that is arguably the most important person in the entire franchise.
SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THE MANDALORIAN SEASON 2 FINALE!
Yes, the Season 2 finale of The Mandalorian brought back none other than the original Star Wars protagonist, Luke Skywalker. After little Grogu reached out with the Force to find another Jedi, it looks like Luke Skywalker himself heard his call and flew to save him from the grip of the evil Moff Gideon. We get to see Luke in his full Return of the Jedi attire as he slices through the many dark troopers that were protecting Moff Gideon.
Seeing Luke go full Jedi Knight feels very similar to the Darth Vader scene from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. We get to see a classic character from the franchise at the height of ther combat powers, taking out an entire squadron of enemies as if it was nothing.
Of course, a lot of discussion will be made about how Star Wars brought a young Luke Skywalker back to life. While Mark Hamill is listed in the credits, it is clear that Luke was played by a body double on set and had a digital makeup job applied to their face. It’s a little deepfake-y and will certainly be a point of contention for some fans. Still, it is hard to deny that seeing the old Luke Skywalker back in action is a treat for many longtime fans of the franchise.
As far as how this is going to affect the story of Star Wars going forward, the sky is the limit. At the end of the episode, Luke takes little Baby Yoda… er, Grogu away in order to teach him the ways of the Jedi. However, we know from what happens in the sequel trilogy that things do not turn out well for Luke’s attempt at a Jedi academy. And considering that Din Djarin did seem pretty conflicted about parting from his son (Baby Yoda is his son for all intents and purposes), we have to assume that Grogu won’t be staying at the academy for very long.
Are we going to see a full return of Luke Skywalker to the Star Wars universe? This inclusion at the end of The Mandalorian Season 2 feels a little more important than a one-off appearance. And Din Djarin did promise that he and Grogu would see each other again. Will Mando be making a trip to Luke’s Jedi academy? And will Grogu and Luke begin to develop their own relationship? Maybe even one that could be fraught with conflict? There is one thing we are sure of: the return of Luke Skywalker signals that the Star Wars universe isn’t done with that scrappy young kid from Tatooine.
