Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season Five Extended Trailer Hints At What Is To Come
With only a month until Star Wars: The Clone Wars kicks off its fifth season, the Cartoon Network has released an extended trailer that ties up the loose ends between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. The trailer also capitalizes on the various surprises from season four. Check out the trailer:
The extended trailer reveals more about the Confederacy of Independent Systems, led by the Jedi Knights, trying to take back the planet of Alderaan from the evil Separatists’ Droid Army. We get the impression that the Rebel Alliance will eventually form under the guidance of the Jedi Knights.
In an interview with EW.com, supervising director Dave Filoni talks about the difference between the extended trailer and the first trailer released this past June:
It didn’t have any of the good stuff in it, because there’s so little that we could show that wasn’t going to give our secrets away. So for this new trailer I said to our editor Kevin Yost, ‘I’m giving you all of the footage, and the only thing you can’t show or talk about is this one thing. But everything else, put it in, and I’ll tell you if you went too far.’ Except for one thing, everything was fair game.
So what could the “one thing” be? We’re speculating that it could be the eventual death of Anakin Skywalker’s apprentice, Ahsoka Tano. It’s unclear if this event will happen this season, but it’s a possibility. Filoni also talks about what’s in store for the upcoming season:
We’ve got some critical set-up this season to explore why the Sith triumph, why the Empire replaces the Republic, the kind of things that fans have always wondered about regarding this period. What do people really think of the Jedi? How is it that Palpatine had the Jedi eliminated and the galactic populace seems fine with that? What does it mean when Mace Windu walks into the Chancellor’s office and tries to arrest him? Would the people be for that or against that? Palpatine makes it look like the Jedi launched a coup. How is it that people would accept such an explanation?
It sounds like there are going to be some darker times for the Jedi Knights before the series lines up with Revenge of the Sith. The extended trailer also teases one of the biggest moments of the season, a three-way Dark Side showdown between Darth Maul & Savage Opress vs. Darth Sidious. Maybe this battle will shed some light on why Darth Sidious has only one lightsaber in Revenge of the Sith instead of two like he does in the extended trailer.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars season five will premiere on September 29th at 9:30AM EST on the Cartoon Network.
