Put Some Damn Fine Coffee on! Twin Peaks’ Return to TV Hinted at by Creators
This article is more than 2 years old
It has been over twenty long years since the quirk-ridden town of Twin Peaks, Washington initially started altering our nightmares, and it took over fifteen of those years to get the entire series locked down into one DVD set, while the underrated Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me still hasn’t garnered any interest from the Blu-ray gods. Now let’s take that well-traveled path from the saw mills to the rumor mills.
Mark Frost, the non-David Lynch co-creator, was recently interviewed in Fire Walk With Me, aren’t alone here.
I know using Twitter as a news source is akin to journalistic bedwetting, but all news is good news where Twin Peaks is concerned. The Twitter account BringBackTwinPeaks! recently posted this to Imgur, which is an anonymous tip from someone saying they sat in on a meeting between NBC and David Lynch, and that there are plans to bring a third season to TV in the future. It states Lynch wants most of the cast back and wants to be hands-on with the project, though NBC is hesitant to allow his “unusual” tastes to be the only ones involved. For plot, it says the story would revolve around good Cooper still being in the Black Lodge, while bad Cooper is still in prison, and that a young female reporter would end up uncovering the dark story behind the town, BOB and all. Moviehole also reports that some cast members, including Log Lady Catherine E. Coulson have been contacted about reprising their roles should a reprisal occur.
Are we anywhere closer to a Twin Peaks comeback than we were yesterday? I doubt it, but part of the fun is in the expectations. As the Log Lady herself says:
There are clues everywhere — all around us. But the puzzle maker is clever. The clues, although surrounding us, are somehow mistaken for something else. And the something else — the wrong interpretation of the clues — we call our world. Our world is a magical smoke screen. How should we interpret the happy song of the meadowlark, or the robust flavor of a wild strawberry?
Until then, I guess we can just wait for the FWWM Blu-ray that may never come, all while watching Terry Gilliam’s Don Quixote film while listening to Dr. Dre’s Detox, from our ocean-front property on Mars.
