The Prototype Trailer That Should Have Become A Full Movie

A lot of great movies have been made from simple concepts, elaborated to the point of superior narrative clarity. But a lot of crappy movies are made this way as well. When it comes to the Prototype movie, it looks like we’ll never know. But the first glimpse of the film sure looked like it really could have been something.

The Bandito Brothers media supergroup, responsible for 2012’s action-filled but not thespian-filled Act of Valor, released a trailer for Prototype on Deadline’s website in 2012. The Prototype sci-fi thriller appeared to be becoming a full film.

Check out that Prototype trailer and see what we mean. It’s a few minutes, but they sure do build the suspense here.

Following a similar process they used with Act of Valor. Filmnation was funding Prototype, while WME Global’s Graham Taylor was behind the domestic distribution.

Glen Basner was to be busy in Berlin selling international rights. On the creative side, Andrew Will, a production assistant on Star Trek, was on as both the writer and director. Back to the financial side, it will be produced by Sean Cushing of Cantina Creative and Max Leitman of Bandito Brothers.

For those that missed our original story on the film, Prototype‘s plot revolves around some sort of a cyborg (Joseph Mawle) who seems to escape from a government facility. There is an implication that he is dealing with some kind of medical issue, and artificial intelligence is thrown into the mix as well.

The Prototype suit looks crazy (in a cool way) and we Neil McDonough (looking evil, probably) out to capture him. Anna Anissimova was also on to star.

But it looks like things stopped there. The production for Prototype really never got underway. It was a proof-of-concept trailer, after all, with no promise of a full movie.
