The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Training Sequence And New Japanese Trailer
This article is more than 2 years old
Everything we’ve seen from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire so far appears to be bigger and deadlier than the first film. A new clip from the film features a fierce training scene with the Tributes of the 75th Hunger Games competition.
The scene features Jena Malone as District 7’s axe-wielding Johanna Mason from with her deadly axe; Alan Ritchson as District 1’s Gloss with his throwing knives; Meta Golding as District 2’s Enobaria with her sharp teeth; and, of course, Jennifer Lawrence as District 12’s Katniss Everdeen, armed with her iconic and trusty bow and arrow. The scene is quick paced and has been featured in a few trailers, but the clip above allows the scene to play out. Just compare the training scene from the first film to Catching Fire‘s. You can see that the sequel is much bigger than the first Hunger Games film.
Catching Fire also released a new Japanese trailer, which gives us a pretty good look at the Capitol and a sense of the high stakes of the film. The first Hunger Games outing was about survival, while the second film feels as if the fate of Panem is in the balance. President Snow doesn’t like the idea that Katniss Everdeen is quickly becoming the face of the emerging rebellion, so he threatens her if she goes any further than the deadly competition. We also get a better look at the future tech in the film series, which seems to have been absent in the first film.
Catching Fire director Francis Lawrence said that the new film would not feature any shaky cam like the first film in the series. He also revealed that Catching Fire will focus on the series’ love story. It was unclear why Katniss and Peeta fell in love in the first film, so hopefully Lawrence will make sure Katniss’ motivations are clearer in Catching Fire.
The Hunger Games sequel follows Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark as they return home after winning the 74th Hunger Games. As a newly crowned champion, Katniss quickly becomes the new symbol of hope for Panem as she and Peeta return to the Capitol for the annual Victory Tour. They later participate in the Third Quarter Quell, or 75th Hunger Games, which is comprised of winners from the past 25 years. Meanwhile, President Snow threatens to kill Katniss as a way to stop any signs of rebellion against the Capitol, and as a way to stomp out any hope for the poor people of Panem.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will hit theaters on November 22nd, in IMAX.
