Hunger Games: Catching Fire International Poster Looks Oddly Familiar
“Remember Who The Enemy Is.” It’s hard to remember who the real enemy is when you’re thrown into an underwater arena with 23 other Tributes. The new international poster for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire reminds audiences, and Katniss Everdeen, that the real enemy of the movies are not the Tributes from the many Districts of Panem, but rather the Capitol and President Snow. The poster also features Katniss in a familiar pose with her weapon of choice, her trusty bow and arrow.
The sequel film opens in theaters in about two months, and Lionsgate is working to get the word out to audiences that a new Hunger Games movie is just over the horizon. The new poster (via IMP Awards) also reminds audiences that something exciting is coming this November. From everything we’ve seen from Catching Fire, it has the potential to have even more excitement and thrilling action than the first Hunger Games movie.
After winning the Academy Award for Silver Linings Playbook last year, Jennifer Lawrence’s stock in Hollywood has risen, along with her status as a pop culture superstar. When you compare the new Catching Fire poster to the first Hunger Games poster, you can see what a difference a year makes. You can see more of Jennifer Lawrence in the new poster, whereas the first movie’s poster was just a close-up of her face. Needless to say, she looks really good in both.
A few days ago, Lionsgate and Republic Records released the full track list for the Catching Fire soundtrack. British rock band Coldplay released the first single, “Atlas,” which peaked at #10 on the iTunes singles chart. The soundtrack features new songs from Christina Aguilera, Imagine Dragons, and Of Monsters And Men, as well as two new cover songs from Lorde and Ellie Goulding. The Catching Fire soundtrack will be available for purchase on November 19th.
As Lionsgate is releasing more promotional materials, Catching Fire is on track to gross at least $950 million worldwide. Investment group Evercore predicted the box office take for Catching Fire, while taking into consideration the popularity of the first film and the rising star of Jennifer Lawrence. If true, Catching Fire will surpass the first Hunger Games movie, which grossed $691.2 million worldwide. With very little competition this November, it seems likely it will be extremely successful.
Catching Fire follows Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark returning home soon after winning the 74th Hunger Games. As crowned champion, Katniss quickly becomes the new symbol of hope for all of Panem. Katniss and Peeta’s homecoming is short-lived when they return to the Capitol for the annual Victory Tour, where Katniss learns more about the emerging rebellion against President Snow (Donald Sutherland). Katniss and Peeta later participate in the Third Quarter Quell, or 75th Hunger Games, which is comprised of winners from the past 25 years. Meanwhile, President Snow threatens to kill Katniss as a way to stop any signs of rebellion and to stomp out any hope for the people of Panem.
The Hunger Games sequel stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Donald Sutherland, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffrey Wright, Stanley Tucci, Toby Jones, Jena Malone, Lynn Cohen, Amanda Plummer, Alan Ritchson, Willow Shields, and Sam Claflin.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will hit theaters everywhere on November 22nd, in glorious IMAX.
