The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Cooks Up A New International Trailer
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire had a spectacular San Diego Comic-Con last week. Lionsgate treated a crowded Hall H to a fantastic new trailer full of unseen footage from the film. The video teases some of the 75th Hunger Games, or Third Quarter Quell, which takes place in a water-bound arena. Since then, the studio released a new International trailer that isn’t quite as amazing (or long) as the Comic-Con trailer, but it still packs a punch and should get audiences around the world ready for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
The new Japanese trailer for Catching Fire is short and sweet, and is really a teaser by most definitions. It holds the victors of the 74th Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson), as heroes and icons of hope in Panem. The image of Katniss is starting to become a threat to President Snow (Donald Sutherland) and The Capitol, so he must do anything he can to get her out of the limelight as a nationwide hero. The new video also features a brief look the new Gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee (Philip Seymour Hoffman), who replaced Seneca Crane (Wes Bentley) after his death following the debacle of the 74th Hunger Games.
Lionsgate is ramping up promotion for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire with the new trailers and character posters. The first adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ young adult trilogy grossed over $691.2 million worldwide, with $408 million from domestic receipts, so Catching Fire has some big shoes to fill. With a new director, Francis Lawrence, on board, and new fans of the series, the sequel is in a good position to top the original.
As for Francis Lawrence, he stepped in to take the helm when the previous director, Gary Ross, left the to pursue other projects. Lawrence plans to continue on with the series, and direct The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 and Part 2. Mockingjay – Part 1 is scheduled to begin principle photography this September in order to get the film ready for a November 2014 release.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire picks up shortly after the events after the first film. Katniss and Peeta return to District 12 as newly crowned champions. The pair’s homecoming is short-lived, though, as they must go back on the road for a Victory Tour of the other Districts of Panem. While on the road, Katniss learns more about the bubbling rebellion against the Capitol and President Snow. The two later participate in the Third Quarter Quell, or 75th Hunger Games, which is made up of the past winners from the last 25 Hunger Games.
Catching Fire also stars Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Lenny Kravitz, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Toby Jones, Willow Shields, Jena Malone, Lynn Cohen, Meta Golding, Amanda Plummer, Jeffrey Wright, and Sam Claflin as fan-favorite Finnick Odair.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire hits theaters everywhere on November 22nd, in IMAX.
