Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill could return to Star Wars according to a new report.

Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill seemed to have been done with the Star Wars franchise. After their appearances in Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker, fans expected that would be the last time they would see the iconic characters of Han Solo and Luke Skywalker on the big screen. And that could still be the case, but a new report says that they might show up in a nifty way.
We Got This Covered is reporting that Lucasfilm is interested in getting both Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill back in the Star Wars franchise in some fashion. The current scuttlebutt is that they could show up in one of the many projects being planned for the streaming service Disney+. Whether this would be in a feature film or a show is unclear at this moment.
On one hand, it would be great to see Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill share screen time as Han Solo and Luke Skywalker. That was something they were deprived of in the recent sequel trilogy and it is definitely one of the negative factors fans point to with that part of the saga. Plus, it seems like it would go a long way in assuaging some of those criticisms if they had even a single scene together.
However, it is also worth noting what has happened with Star Wars since Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill have seemingly left it behind. The Mandalorian has taken off and continues to be one of the best products to come out of the Disney era of Star Wars. Part of that has to do with its clever integration of familiar imagery into brand new characters like Din Djarin and The Child. Bringing back Han Solo and Luke Skywalker might feel like the franchise still can’t let go of the past.
Personally, it would be very satisfying to see Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill get better sendoffs than they received in Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker. That film was an utter mess and is arguably the only Star Wars film that never merits a revisit of any kind. Having that be the potential period on Luke Skywalker and Han Solo – as played by their original actors, at least – would be a disappointing capper to their legacy. Any potential return has the opportunity to right that wrong and could give them a proper goodbye.
But, this is all just rumor and speculation at this point. Lucasfilm might genuinely want Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill to make a return to the Star Wars universe, but it is just as possible that they have no more interest in it. The sequel trilogy seemed very calculated to give them one last run with the characters, and while Han’s death was a bit mishandled, it was still effective and a powerful reminder of how much we love Han. And Luke’s final stand in The Last Jedi is one of the best moments in any Star Wars film. If that is how the characters have to go, it ain’t the worst fate in the world.
