Largest Star Wars Collection In The Galaxy
How big of a Star Wars fan are you? I’d imagine not as big as Steve Sansweet, the founder and president of Rancho Obi-Wan, a museum dedicated to celebrating the memorabilia and culture of Star Wars fandom. Sansweet has accumulated 35 years’ worth of Star Wars collectibles and memorabilia from every facet of the Star Wars universe.
Steve Sansweet was also the centerpiece of the latest Tested.com feature, where he gave a running tour of the 9,000 square-foot facility, Rancho Obi-Wan, which sits just outside of Sonoma in Northern California, about an hour north of San Francisco. According to Sansweet, Rancho Obi-Wan’s collection boasts over three decades’ worth of “Star Wars treasures from all over the world, from movie-used props to tubes of toothpaste.” Check out Tested’s 17-minute video profile on Rancho Obi-Wan below (one of the best collector’s stories is at 6:43):
If you would like a personal tour of Rancho Obi-Wan, the admission fee to the non-profit Star Wars museum is $200 for two people. That’s pretty pricey, but the tour can last one to three hours, depending on how many questions you have for Sansweet. I imagine you’d have a lot of questions, too; the museum sports over 300,000 Star Wars collectibles and memorabilia from over 37 countries around the world.
This is a really impressive collection! A few months ago, we talked about a Star Wars collection in Waco, Texas that pales in comparison to Rancho Obi-Wan. Unfortunately, the Waco, Texas collection was valued at over $120,000, but on sale on Craigslist for $35,000. Maybe that Star Wars collector should have got in contact with Steve Sansweet to unload some of his Star Wars goodies.
