After Guardians, things could really get weird.

LSHLegion of Super-Heroes
DC’s Legion of Super-Heroes is one of the defining science fiction super-teams of comics history. Founded in the 30th century, the original incarnation of the team was essentially a “super-hero club” based on the members’ shared admiration for Superboy, and hoping to live up to the legacy of the 20th century’s greatest heroes. The Legion has amassed a huge membership over the decades, with dozens of different characters to chose from, and has been reimagined and outright rebooted several times along the way as well. That roster includes characters from worlds throughout the United Planets, some whose alien biology grants them their powers and others who gained them in other ways (founding member Lightning Lad got his electrical powers after an attack by an alien “Lightning Beast”).

Not only does the Legion have a huge roster of characters and powers to choose from, the Legion has also featured a variety of tones and styles over the years. They’ve been free-spirited adventurers perfect for a family-friendly movie, and they’ve had their grittier phases, such as in the acclaimed “Great Darkness Saga,” which pitted the Legionnaires against DC alpha-villain Darkseid. You’ve got traditional heavy-hitter heroes like Ultra Boy and Mon-El who could give Superman a run for his money, and you’ve more eccentric characters like Triplicate Girl (can divide into three people), Infectious Lass (can spontaneously create infectious diseases), and Matter-Eater Lad (he can eat, like, anything).

Given how huge the Legion membership is and just how much history the franchise has, I’d actually rather see a Legion TV show than a movie. Syfy has been trying hard to redeem itself with lately by greenlighting shows like The Expanse and Ghost Brigades, so I’d love to see them do a live-action Legion of Super-Heroes series I could introduce my kids to. Syfy has proven it can do more lighthearted fare well with shows like Eureka and Warehouse 13, so with the right talent aboard, a Legion series could be a blast.

Rocket-Style Potential Breakout Character: There are plenty of possibilities, but I’m going to go with Gates, an insectoid critter with a cranky disposition and a fondness for hoodies. He can create teleportation portals, which gives the Legion a good reason not to let any of the bad guys squish him.
