The Best Sci-Fi Comedy Trilogy Ever Gets A Total Upgrade
There’s good news for Keanu fans: Bill and Ted’s Most Triumphant Trilogy will give the beloved comedy series a 4K upgrade from Shout Factory. Coming later this summer, the collection will include all three movies and several bonus features on both UHD and Blu-ray. As a fan-favorite comedy franchise, it couldn’t be more deserving of the fantastic remastered collector’s edition.
Bill & Ted Trilogy
The first film in the upcoming 4K trilogy is the 1988 movie Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, which features Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter as high schoolers desperate to pass their history class.
The wannabe rockers journey through time, courtesy of the time traveler Rufus, played by legendary comedian George Carlin. While the pair of hapless heroes fall into almost every 80s slacker stereotype, the movie focuses on the power of their friendship and their good-natured approach to life as they collect historical figures for their class presentation.
The High-Stakes Sequel Never Looked Better
Of course, the sequel Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey will also receive a 4K upgrade. Released in 1991, the sequel sees its heroes murdered by evil robot replicas from the future. Much of the movie centers around their attempts to escape Death, played by William Sadler.
Despite the much higher stakes, the movie keeps the goofy tone of the original, with the whole sci-fi and fantasy-filled adventure culminating in the grim reaper joining their band for a world-saving rock show.
The Revivial Is Even Getting In On The Action
The final film in the upcoming 4K collection is Bill and Ted Face the Music, which came out in 2020. It focuses on the franchise’s titular duo’s failure to create a perfect utopia with their music, as predicted by the first two films. In another time-travel-filled adventure, they must gather the greatest musicians in history alongside their former bandmate Death and their daughters to perform a song so epic it unites all of reality.
The “Other” Keanu Reeves Series
While the Bill and Ted trilogy has many fans, it’s also well-known for its cast, particularly the franchise’s role in the career of Keanu Reeves. While The Matrix made Reeves into an A-list action hero in 1999, he was best known as Ted “Theodore” Logan before that.
The films also featured numerous cameos from famous, respected musicians like Jane Wiedlin of The Go-Gos, Clarence Clemons of The E Street Band, blues guitarist Taj Mahal, and Kid Cudi.
Available This Summer In 4K HD
In addition to all three Bill and Ted movies in both 4K UHD and Blu-ray, the six-disc collection will include many special features. Each movie will receive commentary tracks and behind-the-scenes information features about the making of the trilogy. Other bonus features include a recording of a conic-con panel, theatrical trailers, an air guitar tutorial, a linguistic discussion of the film’s distinct dialogue, and numerous interviews.
Bill and Ted’s Most Triumphant Trilogy should be celebrated for remastering the films into 4K and bringing the entire franchise together with many great bonus features. As a comedy franchise that launched a major star’s career and paid homage to so many great musicians, this release is long overdue. The collection will come out on August 6, 2024, but pre-orders are now available through Shout Factory.
