A Crowd-Pleasing Scarlett Johansson Blockbuster Is Dominating Netflix
The animated 2021 hit Sing 2 is currently dominating the Netflix streaming charts, sitting at the #6 spot according to FlixPatrol. The film has a star-studded voice cast that includes Matthew McConaughey, Scarlett Johansson, and many more. It’s a great choice if you’re looking for something that entertains the kids, is well-animated, and features some catchy songs.
Sing 2 follows McConaughey’s Buster Moon and the rest of his cast as they try to debut a new show at the Crystal Tower Theater in Redshore City. In order to pull it off, they’ll have to recruit the reclusive rock icon Clay Calloway (Bono) to join their production. Along with Matthew McConaughey, Bono, and Scarlett Johansson, the rest of the cast is rounded out by Taron Egerton, Tori Kelly, Nick Kroll, Jennings, Peter Serafinowicz, Jennifer Saunders, Nick Offerman, Bobby Cannavale, Halsey, Pharrell Williams, Chelsea Peretti, Letitia Wright, and Eric Andre.
If you want to hear stars like Scarlett Johansson and Taron Egerton belt out songs alongside Bono, Sing 2 is the film for you. The film has an original song titled “Your Song Saved My Life” performed by U2, but it also has covers of many classic and modern songs. Some songs that are performed throughout the film include “Let’s Go Crazy” by Prince, “Heads Will Roll” by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” by Elton John, “Break Free” by Ariana Grande, “Can’t Feel My Face” by the Weeknd, and many more.
The star power and singing performances from Scarlett Johansson, Tori Kelly, Bono, Taron Egerton, and the rest of the cast helped to make Sing 2 a massive hit at the box office. The film managed to bring in over $407 million worldwide at the box office against its $85 million budget, earning it the accomplishment of being the highest-grossing animated film of 2021. The film was also well-liked by critics and audiences, so it’s not too surprising that it’s shooting up the streaming charts on Netflix right now.
Surprisingly, Sing 2 is the last film that we’ve seen (or heard) Scarlett Johansson in. She has done a film since 2021, though she did reprise her Sing 2 role in the holiday short Come Home, which also came out in 2021. Fortunately, we’ll get to see Johansson in another role in 2023.
Scarlett Johansson is set to appear in the next film by Wes Anderson about a stargazer convention in the desert. The film, titled Asteroid City, has a star-studded cast that rivals the voice cast of Sing 2. It’s set to come out on June 23 and also stars Margot Robbie, Tom Hanks, Hong Chau, Edward Norton, Bryan Cranston, Maya Hawke, Steve Carell, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe, Tony Revolori, Tilda Swinton, Jeff Goldblum, Rupert Friend, Rita Wilson, Hope Davis, Sophia Lillis, and Fisher Stevens.
Scarlett Johansson is also set to star in the upcoming films My Mother’s Wedding and Project Artemis, which don’t have release dates officially announced yet. In the meantime, you can enjoy her performance as the punk-rock porcupine Ash in Sing 2. The film is ready to stream now on Netflix.
