Scarlett Johansson Joining Another Mega Blockbuster Sci-Fi Franchise?
It would seem that the Jurassic World franchise is starting to pick up some steam after securing Gareth Edwards as the film’s director. However, that’s not the only development, and following Edwards’ attachment to the film, it would seem that Universal is in early talks with a Marvel star to headline the upcoming feature. Scarlett Johansson, best known for her portrayals of Black Widow in the MCU and Lucy in the eponymously named superpowered thriller, Lucy, might be in talks to play the lead in the next Jurassic World.
Scarlett Johansson Eyed To Take Over Jurassic World
As per insider information, two-time Academy Award nominee Scarlett Johansson has been tapped to lead the cast of the upcoming and still-untitled Jurassic World 4. If rumor is correct, Johansson will take over from Chris Pratt, who starred in the previous three films. The reports also state that the Lucy star has already met with Gareth Edwards and Frank Marshall—the producers of Jurassic Park—but there’s still no official confirmation of whether Johansson has accepted the role in the upcoming movie.
Everything We Know About The Film
No further details are currently available, but if the reports are to be believed, the project seems to be progressing in the right direction. From what was speculated before, the upcoming installment of Jurassic World might be titled Jurassic City, with the original Jurassic Park scriptwriter, David Koepp, penning the upcoming film’s script. Furthermore, Frank Marshall isn’t the only one delegated to producer duties.
Steven Spielberg, the director of the original 1993 Jurassic Park movie, is also attached to executive produce the Scarlett Johansson-starring Jurassic World sequel.
Rumored To Be A Reboot
However, calling it a sequel might be a bit of a stretch, considering that the movie was announced as a soft reset for the franchise. This means that none of the previously established characters from previous installments are expected to return to the upcoming film. With CinemaCon right around the corner (April 8 through April 11), it’s really not hard to imagine Universal Pictures making a more formal announcement regarding the film’s casting—possibly confirming Scarlett Johansson’s involvement with Jurassic World—and plans for the future movie and the overall franchise.
You Can’t Go Wrong With A Billion Dollar Franchise
The soft reboot of the franchise, as well as attaching a prominent Hollywood star like Scarlett Johansson to the upcoming movie, isn’t all that surprising. The Jurassic World trilogy might not have been as critically successful as the original Steven Spielberg trilogy, but it was a massive commercial success, with all three Jurassic World movies grossing over a billion at the global box office.
The weakest of the three, Jurassic World: Dominion, is still considered a great financial success despite being panned by the critics and receiving three Golden Raspberry Awards.
Nothing Can Beat The Original
The original trilogy, however, was the real deal. For those who aren’t familiar with it, the original trilogy began in 1993 with the release of Jurassic Park, which was a massive success with both critics and audiences. It was followed by two additional movies with relatively the same level of success.
The premise didn’t change; it’s about humans being trapped on an island with dinosaurs and struggling to survive and not get eaten. Basically, if you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all; the only difference is that this will likely have a lot less Jeff Goldblum and a lot more Scarlett Johansson if the hype is to be believed.
