Rob Schneider is a comic actor known to many for his co-starring roles in a number of Adam Sandler’s ensemble movies. The Longest Yard, Grown-Ups, and The Ridiculous 6 are just three comic films that fans will recognize him from. Now though, the man who shot to fame thanks to Saturday Night Live is joining an upcoming road trip action comedy, per Deadline.
Pledge Trip is a road-trip comedy film directed by Tracy Boyd, whose previous credits include Associating Producing on director Alexander Payne’s movies Downsizing, starring Matt Damon, and The Descendants, which won Payne a screenwriting Oscar and earned its star George Clooney an Oscar nomination. Rob Schneider has joined the project and will star alongside Jake T. Austin and Isabella Gomez. Austin made a name for himself as Max Russo in Disney’s Wizards of Waverley Place and Gomez is best known for her role as Elena Alvarez in the Netflix family sitcom One Day at a Time. Production on Pledge Trip – which is said to focus on three college freshmen desperately launching themselves into a wild and ridiculous road trip in an aim to fit in – will begin this November.
Rob Schneider is of course very familiar with the world of comedy and will more than likely slip comfortably into whatever role he is cast in for Pledge Trip. Rob Schneider began life as a stand-up and comic writer, and got his big break, as so many Hollywood comedy stars do, on Saturday Night Live. Scheider started out as a writer on the show before becoming a front and center cast member in the early to mid-nineties. During Schneider’s tenure on the show, he earned three Primetime Emmy Nominations for his writing on the show, sharing his nominations with the likes of Conan O’Brien, Gregory Daniels, Mike Myers, David Spade, and Adam Sandler.
Rob Schneider then graduated from SNL to the world of films, with lead roles in Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo 1999 and The Hot Chick 2002. Schneider has also had several cameos and co-starring roles in the films starring his old SNL running mate, Adam Sandler. Schneider has appeared in a huge amount of Sandler’s films, from Waterboy to Click, from 50 First Dates to I now Pronounce you Chuck and Larry. Just as he does with David Spade and Kevin James, Adam Sandler can’t seem to resist casting Schneider in his movies.
Before Rob Schneider jumps on board any more Adam Sandler movies or starts production on Pledge Trip, he has two other films set for release this year. One of the two projects in post-production is Dead Wrong directed by Rick Bieber and the other is Amor es amor, which is Schneider’s debut in a Spanish-language film as both actor and director, working from a script penned by his wife, Patricia Maya Schneider, who also stars in the film. Amor es amor is a romantic comedy centering on a telenovela star on the brink of becoming a leading man. Amor es amor follows the Schneider couple’s previous collaboration, Daddy Daughter Trip.
