It’s easy to see why there’s significant excitement building around The Flash, Barry Allen’s solo movie for the DC Extended Universe. For starters, Ezra Miller is insanely likable as the character which is great on its own. But the flick is also going to introduce new talent to the DC roster. One of those actresses will be Sasha Calle who is set to take on the role of Supergirl for the franchise. And now we have some of our first looks at the character.
Sasha Calle will join the DC Extended Universe in this new role and is currently filming The Flash in London. That city will become the backdrop for the fictional Central City in Flash’s world. And Twitter user Aniq Ahmed just happened to stumble on some of the filming from a couple of blocks away. There was a quick video taken that shows Calle definitely in character and for sure showing off some of the powers for Supergirl. Check it out:
This shot is in the middle of the shoot and in all likelihood wasn’t supposed to be seen by the public. But there is Sasha Calle, in costume, being suspended between two cranes, lowering down in a simulation of Supergirl flying onto the street. We know this is a powerful character, a Kryptonian with powers mirroring that of Superman. Of course, what we don’t know is what timeline the Calle version of the character exists. This could be just another Kryptonian who had her way to Earth, or it could be an alternate universe that has Supergirl on the planet instead of Clark Kent.
The reason this kind of speculation exists is that we know that in The Flash, they are going to explore the DC version of the Multiverse. Ezra Miller’s Allen is set to run into different versions of characters from alternate timelines. One example is Michael Keaton who is making his way back on screen as Bruce Wayne. He’ll have a role in this new movie, but Ben Affleck is also reprising his Batman character from the current DC timeline. Sasha Calle might be in one, or both, of these worlds.
Sasha Calle is the first Latina to play the role of Supergirl on either the big or small screen and will be making a grand entrance in this movie. How big of a part she will have remains to be seen though it’s likely that Warner Bros and DC are setting something up in the future for the character. There’s little chance this is all we see of her no matter how big a part she has in the movie. Even if it’s only an introduction, this is most definitely just the beginning.
Though Sasha Calle is filming these scenes now, it’s going to be some time before we actually get to see The Flash in its entirety. The film faced significant delays in production over the last year because of the pandemic and is now slated for a November 2022 release. So we are almost a year-and-a-half out to see what DC has in store for this movie which could really bend the franchise.
