See Sasha Calle React To Supergirl’s Appearance In The Flash Trailer
Sasha Calle's reaction to her own appearance as Supergirl was over-the-top excited.
For one actor, last night was less about the Super Bowl and more about Supergirl. Last night, Sasha Calle posted a video on Twitter of her reaction to watching herself as Supergirl in The Flash trailer. The Young and the Restless star reacted with genuine excitement to the trailer exclaiming, “Oh my god!” every time her character did anything cool, which, if we’re being honest, was every second Supergirl was onscreen.
The Flash is an upcoming DCU film loosely based on the Flashpoint storyline from DC comics. The Flash stars Ezra Miller as Barry Allen (and, as the world found out last night, Barry Allen), who goes back in time to prevent his mother’s death but accidentally ends up in a splinter universe. The new universe features Sasha Calle as Supergirl as well as Michael Keaton returning as Batman.
It was the Batman reveal that no doubt had most of the people watching from home shouting, “Oh my god!” The Flash will be the Keaton’s first time donning the pointy-eared cowl since 1992. Most fans will remember him as the definitive live-action Batman (Christian, who?) and the first actor to yeet the camp and portray the hero as dark and brooding. For Sasha Calle, though, only one character reveal mattered last night, Supergirl.
There have been glimpses of Calle in the Supergirl costume throughout the long and troubled production of The Flash, but this new trailer is the first time fans–and Sasha–have gotten to see Kara Zor-El in action. Calle shows up to save Batman and the two Barrys from some nameless government cannon fodder in what’s easily the most exciting part of the trailer. We also get to see her briefly wearing her costume with the classic s-shield front and center.
The Flash will only be Supergirl’s 2nd time on the big screen. Despite being around for over 64 years, Kara is usually overshadowed by her more famous cousin when it comes to live-action. The 1984 movie Supergirl and the CW Supergirl series have been the only two times Supergirl has shown up in live-action prior to The Flash. Sasha Calle will also be the first brunette Supergirl to grace screens of any size.
Unfortunately, Sasha’s enthusiasm may not be enough to convince fans to show up for The Flash. James Gunn and Peter Safran’s overhaul of the DCU has many fans wondering if The Flash matters anymore. Some are reluctant to get attached to a property that is full of character portrayals that won’t be around past this movie. Add to that all the legal trouble that Ezra Miller has found themselves involved in the last couple of years, and it’s understandable why some fans might be leery of getting too enthusiastic about The Flash.
On the other hand, Gunn has never said directly that Sasha Calle won’t be the Supergirl in the new movie being developed about the character. In the Twitter video, she certainly isn’t acting like someone whose career is about to take a nosedive.
On top of that, Michael freakin’ Keaton is back, so The Flash may very well be Warner Brothers’ golden goose, after all.
