Sandra Bullock Reveals Her Most Embarrassing Movie
Speed is a great thriller movie, but its sequel is pretty much universally considered a miss. Even Sandra Bullock, who starred in Speed 2: Cruise Control, hated the film. In an interview with TooFab, Bullock admitted “I’m still embarrassed I was in.”
As Sandra Bullock points out, even the title of Speed 2: Cruise Control doesn’t track, as it takes place on a cruise ship that is slowly moving. In the movie, the ship is programmed to crash into an oil tanker, but the slow pace of the vehicle itself doesn’t live up to the speeding bus in the original movie. Overall, the film is a complete miss despite the star power of Bullock, Jason Patric, and Willem Dafoe as the villain.
While it’s understandable that Sandra Bullock is embarrassed by Speed 2, at least she can take solace in the fact that she was an integral part of the original movie as well. Speed starred Keanu Reeves, Dennis Hopper, and Bullock and was a critical and financial success, making around $350 million off a $30-$37 million budget. Not only did the film make a ton of money, but it even nabbed a couple of Academy Awards for sound and sound editing.
Unfortunately, Sandra Bullock did sign on for Speed 2, despite Keanu making the (retrospectively right) decision of skipping it. The film was a financial flop, only earning around $164 million worldwide on a reported budget of $160 million. To add insult to injury, the film was critically reviled and even won a Golden Raspberry award for Worst Remake or Sequel.
Sandra Bullock has a bit of a curse when it comes to sequels since Speed 2 and Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous were both considered critical failures. It definitely seems like those sequels have left a bad taste in her mouth, so it seems unlikely that Bullock would be too keen on signing up for any major franchises. With that being said, there have been rumors of a sequel to her recent film The Lost City, so maybe Bullock will try and break her curse once and for all.
The Lost City was released earlier this year and starred Sandra Bullock alongside Channing Tatum, Daniel Radcliffe, and Brad Pitt. Unlike Speed 2, the film was both a critical and financial success. The film followed Bullock as a romance novelist on tour with her cover model who gets caught up in a kidnapping scheme by an eccentric billionaire.
The Lost City even had a post-credits scene, which is always a good way to set up the potential for a sequel. While there are certainly no guarantees that Sandra Bullock would want to return for The Lost City 2, she might be willing to if the other members of the cast and crew are on board. Speed 2 and Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous came out a long time ago, so maybe it’s time for Bullock to finally dip her toes back into the sequel waters again.
We’ll just have to wait and see if Sandra Bullock ever decides to try a sequel again. In the meantime, you can see her reunite with her The Lost City co-star Brad Pitt in her most recent film Bullet Train. The film just hit Netflix, so you can head over there to stream it.
