Samuel L. Jackson Is Fighting For Mace Windu Series
There’s simply no keeping Samuel L. Jackson’s good guy down as the celebrated actor is still holding onto hope that his beloved Star Wars Jedi, Mace Windu, will return to the franchise in one way or another. For a quick refresher on his alleged death, Mace Windu appeared to have met his death in the final film of the Star Wars prequel trilogy, Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, but according to what we’ll describe as a very passionate Jackson, this isn’t the case.
Jackson Insists Windu Lives On
“HE’S NOT DEAD!!!” the Snakes on a Plane star told an interviewer while discussing the milestone 25th anniversary of the arrival of the first film in the prequel series, Episode I – The Phantom Menace, and we have no reason to not take him at his word!
Samuel L. Jackson Enters Star Wars
Back in the 2005 film that capped off George Lucas’s time as the director of the franchise that he started in the ‘70s, audiences had grown very fond of Samuel L. Jackson’s purple lightsaber-wielding Jedi. Mace Windu is introduced during the first chapter of the story, The Phantom Menace, and plays an important part in the Jedi Council and, ultimately, on Anakin Skywalker’s (Hayden Christensen) journey to the dark side. But that all came crashing down in the third and final installment when the Jedi allegedly met his demise.
Mace Windu’s Supposed Death
In one of the most dramatic scenes of all of Star Wars, it seemed that Samuel L. Jackson’s dueling Jedi had the upper hand on Ian McDiarmid’s Sheev Palpatine but that all changed when Anakin showed his true colors. With a swift swing of his lightsaber, Anakin cut off Mace Windu’s hand before Palpatine entered the ring in true tag-team fashion, using his electrifying Force powers to send Windu sailing out the window and into the Coruscant skyline. For years, we’ve presumed that Windu met his end after falling to his death but Jackson doesn’t want his character to be counted out just yet.
The Expanding Franchise
What started as a film series would eventually blossom into a sprawling franchise with comics, books, video games, and TV projects that have reintroduced old characters and brought in newbies to the Force. Over the last few years, we’ve seen shows like Obi-Wan Kenobi tell the backstory of one of Star Wars’ most beloved characters. With that in mind, Samuel L. Jackson (and his fans) are wondering why the same couldn’t be possible for Mace Windu.
Jackson Wants It To Happen
If you were wondering how Samuel L. Jackson felt about returning as Mace Windu in any sort of Disney+ series, he gave yet another energetic answer to the interviewer saying, “EVERYTHING YES!!” With this, we’re sure hoping that Disney will be on the phone with him soon, working out a way that Mace can pick his lightsaber back up and return to the fold – whether that be in a flashback series or something to prove that he’s not dead yet.
