Marvel is bringing the magnitude of the cinema to the small screen in the first trailer for their upcoming series Secret Invasion, which you can see below. Fans have been long awaiting the arrival of the Samuel L. Jackson-led series as it promises to bring new and old faces into the action with the likes of Cobie Smulders and Martin Freeman reprising their roles as well as Game of Thrones alum Emilia Clarke joining the fold. The action-packed first look promises to deliver an intriguing story with plenty of quips and explosions along the way.

The opening moments see Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury ditching the eye patch and showing off that “Kree battle scar” (wink wink), looking more rogue than ever. Things have taken a turn for the worse since Fury was in the fight as Ben Mendehlson’s good-guy Skrull, Talos, explains to the agent before we see what he means. With explosions rocking major cities, Fury insists that he’s back and ready to take the defensive against humanity’s latest threat.

The trailer also gives us a look at MCU newcomer, Olivia Colman, who can be heard speaking throughout the teaser and appears opposite Samuel L. Jackson as a villain fighting against Fury and his objective. There’s also the first real look at Emilia Clarke’s character G’iah who the actress was just revealed to be playing after audiences were initially expecting to see her as S.W.O.R.D. Captain Abigail Brand. At the center of the chaos, Kingsley Ben-Adir’s Gravik looks eager and more than prepared to unleash his fury onto Nick Fury.

One thing the trailer was sure to point out is that Fury would be facing this new threat alone – without the help of the Avengers. This is probably a great idea seeing as how the agitated alien lifeform can shapeshift into any human body they desire, which could make things really confusing for Fury and the rest of his team. However, there is a moment where we see Samuel L. Jackson’s agent locked in a tense conversation with Don Cheadle’s James Rhodes aka War Machine, so there’s always a possibility that an Avenger or two could make a cameo.

Secret Invasion will revolve around mistakes made by Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury after not properly providing aid to the Skrulls. Cinematically introduced in the Brie Larson-led Captain Marvel, the aliens were seeking safety when they teamed up with Fury to take down a mutual enemy, but since then, Fury has left them in a lurch. Radicalizing a sect of his people, Gravik is pushing his followers to take things into their own hands and invade Earth to gain the materials they need through whatever force is deemed necessary.

Since making the jump from big to small screen format, Disney+ and Marvel have teamed up to bring audiences a slew of celebrated series including WandaVision, Ms. Marvel, What If…? and Loki, the latter of which will soon be returning for a second season. Judging by the first teaser for Secret Invasion, audiences are in for yet another treat when Samuel L. Jackson reprises his role as the rough-and-tough Nick Fury and brings the drama to series form.
