Pat Sajak Disciplines Wheel Of Fortune Contestant For Not Following The Rules
Pat Sajak chastises a Wheel of Fortune contestant on air for picking up a million-dollar wedge early.
As The Office’s Dwight Schrute once said “know your rules, you better know your rules”. Apparently, Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak lives by that phrase as the (clearly tired and over it) host recently scolded a fan for doing things the wrong way on the long-running beloved game show. The show has never been free of shocking moments, but as seen in the Twitter post below, this one may take the cake with Sajak chastising a contestant for picking up the million-dollar wedge before it was the proper time.
“No, no, no, no,” the Wheel of Fortune host says before turning full-on robot and blurting out “ba ba bo bop,” immediately putting a halt on the contestant’s grab for the million dollar prize. In the most snarky and condescending voice possible, Sajak then informs the winner, Mary Ann, of how to play the game – because the rules are important, ma’am! After being scolded and reminded of how it all works, our girl Mary Ann still manages to land the coveted wedge, brightly smiling while Sajak makes another sarcastic comment at her expense.
To be frank, Sajak is clearly getting tired of his time hosting Wheel of Fortune, and who can really blame him? He’s been the host of the series for over 40 years which is the only job security better than that of a Supreme Court justice. Although his name is synonymous with the day-time favorite, for his own sanity, Sajak may want to think about passing on the baton to someone else and retiring to enjoy his life away from contestants who don’t know the rules.
Getting ahead of any pushback, Wheel of Fortune’s Twitter account shared Sajak’s latest dig as a joke rather than the semi-rude interrupter that it was. The social media team has definitely been earning their paychecks lately, turning a lot of awkward on-air moments into sharable content for the world to enjoy. The social gurus recently knocked it out of the park by sharing a rather embarrassing moment for Sajak when a contestant struck back at his wisecracks.
The event in question happened when contestant Ben Tucker was doing his best to solve a four-word puzzle under the Fun & Games category. After the clock ran out, with Tucker making several guesses, the Wheel of Fortune host told him that he was “so unclose,” revealing that the answer was “taking a quick jog.” Striking back at Sajak for his taunting remark, Tucker said that there was nothing enjoyable about jogging, getting a laugh of agreement from the audience as well as plenty of online support from folks happy that someone was standing up to the old stick in the mud.
With majorly zippy moments like this being an almost daily occurrence on Wheel of Fortune the decades-long competition show may actually be bringing in more viewers because of Sajak’s remarks. And while some contestants may be blinded by large sums of money and completely forget the rules of the game, one thing’s for sure – there are plenty of players out there who are prepared to give the snark right back to Sajak.
