Ryan Reynolds Watched R-Rated Deadpool & Wolverine With The Perfect Companion
Ryan Reynolds undoubtedly has shown quite a few close friends a cut of Deadpool & Wolverine, but he recently got the stamp of approval from one of the only critics that matter – his daughter, James. While James is 9, which is a little under the recommended age to check out an R-rated film, Reynolds talked about how he saw R-rated movies as a kid, and it helped inspire him to do the projects he does now.
He added, “I’m not saying that other people should do this, but my 9-year-old watched the movie with me and my mom, who’s in her late 70s, and it was just one of the best moments of this whole experience for me.”
Everyone Can Relate To Reynolds’ Story
Ryan Reynolds’ story about seeing R-rated movies as a kid is something that we can all relate to, whether your parents were the type who didn’t mind or whether you were the kid who had to watch R-rated movies at your friends’ parents’ house because they didn’t care. In any case, plenty of us remember watching our first R-rated movie or our first MA-rated video game. There are undoubtedly going to be quite a few kids who end up checking out Deadpool & Wolverine as their first R-rated movie.
The Rating Won’t Keep Kids Away
It’s safe to say that Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine will likely only be filled with adults on opening night, but the film is shaping up to be a big success. Two months ago, the film set the R-rated record for first-day ticket sales. The Deadpool franchise has also historically shattered plenty of other records related to R-rated movies and box office success.
Best Friends Forever
Since Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine is simultaneously a Deadpool sequel, the first Deadpool movie in the MCU, and the first R-rated MCU movie in general, it has a lot of box office draw. That draw only intensified when Hugh Jackman was revealed to be returning as Wolverine early on in the marketing campaign, eventually making his way onto the title card.
There’s also the fact that the movie looks like it’ll have massive implications for the storyline of the MCU going forward, so there’s probably going to be quite a few kids secretly catching the movie just to be caught up.
The Foul-Mouthed Savior Of The MCU
Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine has a lot of pressure to succeed, considering it’s the only theatrical MCU release this year. MCU fans are expecting big things after many of the MCU’s recent projects have left them disappointed. The film is being viewed as sort of a turning point for the franchise, especially if it ends up bringing the X-Men into the MCU, as many people are assuming.
In any case, it seems like Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have a big hit on their hands with Deadpool & Wolverine, whether kids will be watching it or not. It’ll be interesting to see just how much money it ends up making. Fortunately, we don’t have to wait much longer to check it out.
The Long Wait Is Almost Over
Deadpool & Wolverine is directed by Shawn Levy, who co-wrote the script with Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells. The film also stars Emma Corrin, Matthew Macfayden, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggums, Brianna Hildebrand, Shioli Kutsuna, Karan Soni, and Stefan Kapicic. We’re just a week away from the highly-anticipated film hitting theaters, as it lands on July 26 nationwide.
