Ryan Reynolds is one of the biggest stars in the world, and he only seems to be getting more famous. From starring in Marvel’s Deadpool franchise to playing the lead role in Free Guy, he is in no danger of losing work or being out of a job for more than a day. He does not need to be in Star Wars, but I can’t think of one person who would complain if he popped in to George Lucas’s creation for a cameo or even a recurring role. Now, if a recent rumor is to be believed, that may be closer to possible than any of us thought.

Gossip writer Daniel Richtman reports that Ryan Reynolds wants to portray a Mandalorian in The Mandalorian. If true, this would be huge and would basically confirm the theory that the show is building toward the retaking of Mandalore. But remember that this is still just a rumor at this point and should not be considered a done deal. Yet.

Ryan Reynolds is known for countless roles, most notably those of Wade Wilson/Deadpool in Fox’s X-Men universe and as Pikachu in Pokemon: Detective Pikachu. But aside from his bigger, more well-known roles, Reynolds has also appeared in Life, Just Friends, The Croods, and Turbo, among others.

It could just be a cameo or one-off appearance similar to that of Timothy Olyphant, but regardless of the capacity in which he appears, a Ryan Reynolds appearance in The Mandalorian would be a big deal. Especially if he donned some Mando armor and fought alongside Pedro Pascal against who-knows-what. Or maybe he will just show up, drop some funny lines, and then fly off into the sky, never to be seen in Star Wars again. Either way, most people would be happy just to get a glimpse of Ryan Reynolds in that shiny armor.

As things stand now, it is unclear where The Mandalorian is headed after the game-changing events of the second season’s finale. It could be the aforementioned retaking of Mandalore, or it could be further build-up to that crossover event Lucasfilm promised at Disney’s Investor Day call back in December 2020. Hopefully, it is the former, because that would be a wild direction in which they could take the show. There are, after all, a number of new The Mandalorian-related Star Wars television series premiering within the next three years. It is anyone’s guess at this point, and hopefully we get some more hints one way or the other sooner rather than later.

And hey, maybe if Jon Favreau finally gets the creative freedom he wants from Lucasfilm, then we could see more of Ryan Reynolds in Star Wars going forward. That would be such a treat. There are so many incredible possibilities for when and how the popular actor could enter the Star Wars universe, so fingers crossed Richtman’s rumor holds water! Maybe if it did not before, it does now? I hope you are listening, Disney! The ball is in your court here.
