Ryan Reynolds Is Now Playing This Superhero Who Isn’t Deadpool Next
If one rumor is to believed, Ryan Reynolds will be donning this superhero's costume.
Ryan Reynolds has made a name for himself in the superhero world thanks to the success of Deadpool. But, if one rumor is to be believed, the highly celebrated actor could be returning to another superhero role of his.
According to controversial YouTube personality Grace Randolph, Ryan Reynolds is being courted by Zack Snyder to appear in Zack Snyder’s Justice League as none other than Green Lantern. This comes on the heels of news about reshoots for the project that will include Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ben Affleck, and Ray Fisher.
It should be noted that Randolph is not the most trusted source of information. Her recent claims revolving around The Mandalorian look to have been disproven. Randolph made this claim about Ryan Reynolds returning as Green Lantern back in June, but no other reputable entertainment news sources have backed this up. It is possible that Randolph is fabricating this alleged scoop, or that her possible sources continue to feed her bad information. Randolph has also garnered a reputation online for not being a trustworthy source of entertainment scoops.
Logically, it just does not seem likely that Ryan Reynolds would want to return as Green Lantern. He has continuously lampooned his involvement in the 2011 film and seems to view it with more than a little disdain. There are pointed jokes in both Deadpool films at the expense of Green Lantern and Ryan Reynolds even got fellow Green Lantern actor Taiki Waititi to dismiss their involvement in the film with a jokey bit of marketing for his upcoming sci-fi comedy, Free Guy.
Ryan Reynolds does not seem to have a lot of love lost for his time as Green Lantern, and the idea that he would want to re-enter the DC cinematic universe as the character in Zack Snyder’s ultra grim and gritty cut of Justice League seems wildly out of place for that project. Green Lantern existed at a time when the trajectory for the DC cinematic universe was still very unclear. Now, it seems like they have a better grasp on what they want to do with these characters and their world.
Having Ryan Reynolds show up as Green Lantern wouldn’t just be tonally discordant. It would also remind audiences of a time when the DC cinematic universe was not as fully formed as it is today. Not to mention that there are reports of other plans for the Green Lantern character that directly contradict this rumor.
Green Lantern is not the abomination it has been made out to be, and it would be enjoyable to see Ryan Reynolds reprise the role in some fashion. Could that happen in Zack Snyder’s Justice League? Anything is possible. If this does end up being true, it would certainly be a major talking point for the project. Exactly what does Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern look like in Zack Snyder’s interpretation of the DC universe? Maybe we will see, but for now, we are going to take this rumor with a mountain of salt instead of just a grain.
