Watch Ryan Reynolds’s Terrifying AI-Generated Ad
Ryan Reynolds used ChatGPT to create a commercial for Mint Mobile.
With the help of artificial intelligence, Ryan Reynolds created a commercial for his mobile network company and the results are terrifying. In a video, the actor describes how he used ChatGPT to create the copy for Mint Mobile in his voice. Other requirements on the checklist included a joke, a curse word, and letting people know that the company’s holiday promotion is still going.
“Hey, it’s Ryan Reynolds here,” the AI copy read by the Deadpool star says. “First of all, let me just say Mint Mobile is the sh*t, but here’s the thing. All the big wireless companies out there are ending their holiday promos, but not Mint Mobile. We’re keeping the party going ‘cause we’re just that damn good. Give Mint Mobile a try,” the script continued.
The advert closed by offering customers a special surprise for signing up soon. “As a bonus, you’ll get to hear my voice every time you call customer service. Just kidding, that’s not really a thing. And stay classy everyone.” After reading the AI-generated script, Ryan Reynolds described the results as eerie, mildly terrifying, and compelling.
Before being tested by Ryan Reynolds, ChatGPT had been making waves among marketing experts for some time. The generative AI program uses Natural Language Processing to generate text-based dialogue and simulate human conversation. It is currently being positioned as a tool that could revolutionize various text-based content creation, such as marketing copy, translating languages, and more.
Launched by OpenAI in November 2022, marketing professionals have been gushing about how the technology could transform their field and make their jobs easier. However, others have concerns that it could strip the industry of its creative spark, The Drum reports. Meanwhile, the Mint Mobile commercial featuring Ryan Reynolds has been shared on the brand’s various social media platforms.
Away from artificial intelligence, Ryan Reynolds has been working to revive his recently purchased Welsh football club. As Wrexham was condemned to a 15th year in England’s fifth division following a loss to Grimsby, co-chairman Rob McElhenney (of Mythic Quest fame) assured long-time fans that the defeat was just a small “bump in the road.”
Along with Ryan Reynolds, the American duo’s first full season as team owners brought a second-placed finish, a Wembley final for the FA Trophy, and a special exception made to restore the football club to the FIFA video game series. But for McElhenney, these milestones were just the first step. The pair are currently focused on recruiting more players and coaching talent while giving the Wrexham stadium a much-needed upgrade, the Daily Mail reports.
Although he’s been juggling several business ventures, Ryan Reynolds still finds time to make movies. His upcoming projects include a fantasy comedy called IF. Written and directed by John Krasinski, the story chronicles a child’s journey to rediscover their imagination. Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Fiona Shaw, Cailey Fleming, Bobby Moynihan, Louis Gossett Jr., and Steve Carell also star. The movie is set for release by Paramount Pictures on May 24, 2024.
Ryan Reynolds is also working on the highly anticipated third installment of Deadpool. The movie serves as the antihero’s official integration into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The project, which also features Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, will hit theaters on November 8, 2024.
