Rosario Dawson Confirms Major Star Wars Casting
Rosario Dawson just spilled Star Wars casting news for two major characters.
In The Mandalorian, we saw Ahsoka Tano appear in live-action, asking about the whereabouts of Grand Admiral Thrawn. When a show starring Ahsoka Tano as Rosario Dawson was announced, it became the natural assumption that in the series, she’ll be tracking down Thrawn. Fans have been watching for casting announces for Grand Admiral Thrawn, and thus Ezra Bridger, to be announced. Despite the fact that rumors have circulated that Mena Massoud has been cast as Ezra Bridger and Lars Mikkelsen as Thrawn, there have been no announcements. Now, out of nowhere, Rosario Dawson has confirmed that the two have been cast. It happened so smoothly that it almost seems like an accident. The actress confirmed they’ve been cast via an Instagram Story.
In the picture below, you can see that another user posted that Mena Massoud and Lars Mikkelsen had joined the cast for the Disney+ series. Rosario Dawson then shared that fan posted to her own story, which reads as supporting/confirming that the two are cast in Ahsoka Tano.
How official is this confirmation? Was this a misunderstanding? There are some possibilities here. It’s entirely possible that Rosario Dawson simply saw this rumor, thought it was fun, or mistakenly believed it was formally announced, and posted it to her Story. There’s just as equal a possibility that she had forgotten this piece of news wasn’t formally announced yet and posted it in support of her co-stars without realizing that she was making a public announcement. It seems doubtful that she saw this as a fun fan casting and just posted it to her stories, not with the context of the caption from the original poster.
The caption in this Story, seemingly from the original poster, says this is “the best news ever”. That strongly seems to indicate that Rosario Dawson believed it was confirmed news, not a rumor. It feels fairly likely that the actress just confirmed this casting, whether she realized it or not. This may also mean that she’s in a bit of trouble with Disney right now. That’s definitely a company that prefers to make their announcements on their own terms.
While it is important to point out that we don’t know what Rosario Dawson was thinking when she posted this, and what she herself knew, it seems fairly likely that she at least knows that Grand Admiral Thrawn and Ezra Bridger will be characters in the series. That much, at least, seems a very safe bet.
Like Ahsoka Tano, Ezra Bridger and Grand Admiral Thrawn are characters from Star Wars: Rebels, an animated series. For his last seasons of the series, Thrawn was the main villain. In a major event for the series finale, Ezra Bridger took Grand Admiral Thrawn down by having purrgils attack a ship that both Bridger and Thrawn were on. They disappeared into the galaxy, never to be seen again. They could be presumed dead, but of course, in science fiction and fantasy, characters are never truly dead, especially if we don’t see them die on screen.
When Rosario Dawson’s character asked about Thrawn in The Mandalorian, she confirmed for audiences that Grand Admiral Thrawn is alive, which means Ezra Bridger should be alive, and that Ahsoka Tano will be finding them both in her series. While none of that has truly been confirmed by Disney or explicitly stated in the story, it seems inevitable from what the story has said. Hopefully, this social media post from Rosario Dawson will force Disney to give us a little more Ahsoka Tano news, including their own casting confirmation for Mena Massoud and Lars Mikkelsen.
