Another Iconic Villain Being Teased In Robert Pattinson’s The Batman?
Robert Pattinson has another foe to face in The Batman.
As we edge closer to the release of The Batman speculation about which iconic DC villains will make an appearance alongside Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight continues to gain momentum. The latest bad guy rumored to be in the film is Two-Face (aka Harvey Dent).
The news comes by way of Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman, who says that although Two-Face isn’t the main protagonist, the film will tease his existence in the Robert Pattinson-led Batman franchise. Two-Face has always been one of Batman’s most prominent adversaries along with the Joker, Penguin, and The Riddler. And while there have been a few popular versions of the infamous villain on screen, reinventing characters for new audiences is what makes DC’s stories so appealing.
Keeping with this trend, Matt Reeves looks set to reinvent some of the Caped Crusader’s most infamous foes. Alongside Robert Pattinson’s young Batman, the film will see Paul Dano as The Riddler alongside Colin Farell’s interpretation of The Penguin.
Thanks to our trusted and proven sources, Giant Freakin Robot learned that The Batman will be also teasing Mr. Freeze and the Joker, essentially setting up events for future movies in the Robert Pattinson trilogy. Warner Brothers also confirmed that Peter Sarsgaard will be appearing as a district attorney, initially fuelling rumors that he would be playing Harvey Dent/Two-Face.
But his character has since been revealed to be Gotham D.A. Gil Colson. Having never appeared in the Batman mythos before, Colson seems to be a new creation and may still be involved in the Two-Face origin story. Moreover, Robert Pattinson’s Batman lives on Earth-Two which rules out any overlap with the characters from the Justice League or Suicide Squad.
The film will focus on Batman’s second year of fighting crime, as he uncovers corruption in Gotham City that connects to his own family while facing a serial killer known as The Riddler. Matt Reeves takes the helm as director and will be working from a script he wrote with Peter Craig.
Starring alongside Robert Pattinson is a stellar supporting cast which includes Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, Jayme Lawson as Bella, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as the Penguin, and Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson.
Fans of the Dark Knight can also look forward to a spin-off prequel television series which is in development at HBO Max. According to Reeves, Gotham PD will be set during the first year of Batman’s career and will have a connection to 1987’s iconic Year One comic book story arc by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli.
Matt Reeve’s also stated (via Den of the Geek) that the story will do a deep dive into the criminal aspect of Gotham City focusing on the corrupt police department and the corrupt inner workings of the city. But there’s currently no word on whether Robert Pattinson will make an appearance in the series.
The Batman is currently scheduled for release worldwide on March 4, 2022.
