Rick And Morty Creator Fired From Two More Shows
Rick and Morty's co-creator, Justin Roiland, has now been let go from Solar Opposites and Koala Man.
The fallout for Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland is getting even worse, as it has now been revealed that the man is being let go of Solar Opposites and Koala Man. 20th Television Animation and Hulu Originals stated, “We have ended our association with Justin Roiland.” Roiland has now been dropped by three different shows and has resigned as the CEO of Squanch Games.
Justin Roiland co-created Polar Opposites, executive produced the series and voiced the main character: Korvo. Polar Opposites first debuted on Hulu in 2020 and was set to release the fourth season in 2023, with the fifth already being approved as well. Roiland also executive produced the new animated series, Koala Man, and he voiced a guest character in the first season.
Squanch Games was just created by Justin Roiland and released the High on Life video game that has been a hit with fans. However, Roiland resigned as CEO of the new gaming studio, which has promised to continue to produce games without him. Roiland has seen his partnerships end based on domestic violence charges that occurred in 2020.
Justin Roiland was charged with one felony count of domestic battery with corporal injury and one felony count of false imprisonment by menace, violence, fraud, and/or deceit in Orange County, California. These charges stem from an alleged incident that took place in January 2020, with an unnamed Jane Doe that Roiland had been dating. Roiland pleaded not guilty while appearing in court on January 13, 2023, with an additional hearing taking place on April 27.
This is the first time that these charges have been made public, but it has been enough for Justin Roiland to now be relieved of his duties on the previously mentioned shows. We are not sure what is going to come of these charges, but it has been enough for everyone to cut ties with the creator. Adult Swim was the first to announce that Rick and Morty had cut ties with Roiland, but that they are going to be working on the new season, which means that both Rick and Morty characters are going to be recast.
Justin Roiland was the voice of both Rick and Morty, and handled voice duties for many of the other characters in the hit animated series. Rick and Morty has become a cultural phenomenon, though we are not sure what the show is going to sound like without Roiland’s involvement. Cartoon Network ordered 70 episodes of the series back in September of 2022.
Justin Roiland created Rick and Morty with Dan Harmon, who famously created shows like Community and the upcoming Krapopolis adult animated series. Harmon is likely to continue the greatness that is Rick and Morty, and we are sure that he is going to find the right people to voice the titular characters. Rick and Morty just ended its sixth season on December 11, 2022.
We are sure more details about the charges against Justin Roiland are going to be released after his next hearing takes place in April. For now, it appears that the man is seeing his entire career destroyed by these alleged heinous acts.
