Just a short time ago we were treated to the first teaser for the new live-action Resident Evil Netflix series. There was a lot going on in the small amount of time that left fans reeling and wanting to know where this new iteration would take things. Well, as part of Netflix’s showcase called “Geeked Week” the streaming platform is releasing trailers for all the exciting new releases. One of those happens to be Resident Evil, which has been given a full trailer. There is, even more, to unpack in this futuristic world full of monsters. You can see the trailer below:
One of the most interesting aspects of this new Resident Evil Netflix series is that the world is set in the future, and oddly enough, Umbrella is attempting to correct its mistakes. In this new version of the zombie post-apocalyptic world, it seems Umbrella had been involved in some shady dealings before Wesker came over and created the T-virus. That still seems to be the core concern for this new series, though we are not sure where the timeline will be primarily focused, there seems to be some time jumping going on. On top of the usual horde of zombies though, there are even more frightening monsters to deal with.
During the trailer, we get our first look at some of the most iconic mutations throughout the series. For one, there was a better shot of a licker, which debuted in Resident Evil 2. Also, we spotted what appeared to be a Chainsaw Man from Resident Evil 4 quickly shown in the trailer. The potato sack mask is a dead giveaway for longtime fans of the series. Also, it seems that there is a version of the Tyrant and or a version of Mr. X being created in a lab. Fans of the Resident Evil 2 remake will recognize Mr. X as the gray-skinned trench coat-wearing stalker who chases you throughout the game. Also, a giant zombie spider. Zombies are bad enough, but when you add in a massive spider to the mix, that is just too much. However, Resident Evil on Netflix seems to want to frighten fans as the game series has.
Resident Evil has had a long and storied history that has covered video games and animated and live-action adaptations. This new Resident Evil Netflix series seems to be a ton of elements taken from the franchise and mashed into one. It may not work, or it might work exactly how it is intended to, by bringing in everything in a succinct way. We are certainly excited to see where it goes.
The new Resident Evil Netflix series will debut on July 11th. The series stars Lance Reddick as Albert Wesker, Ella Balinska as Jade Wesker, Tamara Smart as the younger version of Jade, and Adeline Rudolph as Billie. Siena Agudong plays the younger Billie. Andrew Dabb, who previously worked on Supernatural, is the showrunner for the series. We can’t wait to see what happens in this new take on one of the best zombie horror stories ever created.
