If you have been looking for an original series to get into and are in the mood for some laughs, it is time to ask yourself why you have not checked out Resident Alien yet. The show has two seasons available on Netflix now, and as the title suggests, centers on the story of an extraterrestrial (played by Alan Tudyk) who has wound up on Earth. The catch is that he is disguised as a human and doing his best to remain incognito until he can complete his mission to wipe out life on Earth.

Resident Alien Won’t Leave You Yelling “Game Over!”

If you are worried that a show about aliens might be too scary for your taste, rest assured that Resident Alien’s brand of sci-fi creatures are more in the vein of the sitcom 3rd Rock from the Sun than the xenomorphs from the Ridley Scott movies. The alien is masquerading as Harry Vanderspeigle, a medical examiner at a clinic. However, hilarity ensues watching a creature with no prior exposure to humans trying to mimic our customs and behaviors the best it can without understanding why humans do so many of the things we do.

Resident Alien’s Creator Is A Comedy Veteran

The series comes from the mind of Chris Sheridan, adapted from the comic book of the same name. Sheridan has experience working on a lot of other comedies throughout his career. Most notably, he used to write for Family Guy for several years, though Resident Alien is his first time as a show’s creator.

However, it is already off to a strong start, with its third season just starting this month after the series debuted in 2021.

Lots Of Nerd Royalty

The series has also attracted quite a star-studded pedigree of guest stars from the sci-fi genre. So far the show has had characters portrayed by George Takei of Star Trek fame, Linda Hamilton who we all know as Sarah Connor from the Terminator movies, and Nathan Fillion of the beloved cult classic Firefly.

Critics Love The Show

Resident Alien has some strong critical response behind the show so far. On Rotten Tomatoes, the series holds a 97 percent fresh rating and an 86 percent rating from audience reviews. That is pretty strong praise for a relative newcomer to the TV market. However, if you feel like you have heard the show’s name somewhere years ago before, you are not going crazy.

The Comic Book

The Resident Alien tv series is actually an adaption of a comic series that started back in 2012. If you are the type of person leery from comic book adaption fatigue, this is a show that could freshen things up for you and give you a break from capes and masks. Fish out of water comedy (or in this case, alien out of space) is a classic comedy bit that fills the series with the amusing tension of whether Tudyk’s character will be able to keep everyone around him from catching on to the truth.

Check It Out Now On Netflix

With season three just starting up this month, now is a great time to jump in on the show and see what the fuss is about. The first two seasons of Resident Alien are available on Netflix and ready for you to conveniently binge so you can get caught up for the newest episodes.
