Reese Witherspoon Destroyed The Car Of A Hollywood Legend
While parking his car as an intern, Reese Witherspoon stripped the gears of Denzel Washington's Porsche.
Destroying the car of a Hollywood star might not be the best way to begin your acting career, but Reese Witherspoon somehow managed to make it work. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Legally Blonde star interned for the Denzel Washington film Devil in a Blue Dress, which put her in charge of multiple duties — including parking Denzel Washington’s Porsche. At only 17 years old, she hadn’t had much experience driving and ended up parking it more permanently than intended by stripping all its gears.
Reese Witherspoon had apparently spread that story around enough over the years that Denzel Washington eventually heard about it. When they two met years later, Washington pointed out that one of his daughters actually worked on the set with Reese Witherspoon during the filming of Water for Elephants. However, Washington’s daughter was responsible for taking costumes in and out of Witherspoon’s trailer, meaning that she didn’t have the chance to ruin anything particularly pricey.
Her responsibility for ruining Denzel Washington’s car wasn’t the only embarrassing story Reese Witherspoon told. She also recounted how one of her first auditions was for the Martin Scorsese film Cape Fear, and she had to audition in front of star Robert de Niro. She was so scared that she couldn’t even say one of the words she was supposed to — an event that de Niro recounted a decade later when Witherspoon auditioned for him again.
Despite Reese Witherspoon’s early missteps, she did eventually find her footing in Hollywood. She landed her first role in the 1991 film The Man in the Moon and landed roles in other films, such as Pleasantville and American Psycho. She was eventually propelled into stardom after her starring role in Legally Blonde.
Reese Witherspoon didn’t just have a knack for acting, either. Her internship with the production side of things paid off, with her becoming a producer for dozens of shows and films — starting with Legally Blonde 2: Red White & Blonde. Since then, she has also produced several high-profile projects, including 2014’s Gone Girl and 2022’s Where the Crawdads Sing.
This all came after Reese Witherspoon founded her own production company, Type A Films, back in 2000. This company eventually became Pacific Standard in 2012, before becoming Hello Sunshine in 2016 after she joined forces with Seth Rodsky and Otter Media. Hello Sunshine was eventually sold for an astounding $900 million.
Despite selling Hello Sunshine, Reese Witherspoon still serve’s on the company’s board. She’s currently heading multiple projects such as the comedy Amazon Prime series All Stars, and the upcoming romantic comedy Your Place or Mine. A third movie in the Legally Blonde series is also under development.
Reese Witherspoon’s role as a producer has not prevented her from continuing her acting career. She has recently appeared in the Little Fires Everywhere TV series and voiced Rosita in the animated film Sing 2. She will also star in Your Place or Mine, the upcoming live-action fantasy movie Tinker Bell, and, of course, Legally Blonde 3.
So remember, to become a Hollywood success story, start by destroying the car of someone important. It worked for Reese Witherspoon, so it can’t possibly go wrong.
