The Jurassic Park franchise has been a profitable series of films and merchandise that’s seemingly taken over the world since the first film debuted in theaters in 1993. Directed by Steven Spielberg, Jurassic Park brought new levels of interest in dinosaurs to kids, and a lot of adults, worldwide. A welcome addition to the slew of summer blockbusters that Spielberg had been known for much of his career, the movie spawned several sequels and a new generation of audiences entertained by the prospect of bringing dinosaurs back to life. Now, life finds a way through new apparel marketed for the most recent film, as Jurassic World sneakers are becoming readily available to consumers.
According to a report by Collider, Reebok has partnered with Universal to unveil a line of Jurassic World sneakers just in time to celebrate Jurassic World Dominion’s box office run. The shoe line is inspired by the Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard movie, which is still in theaters and currently available to rent or buy at home on demand. Reebok has themed their new sneakers with a classic Jurassic Park look, and they will incorporate some form of amber, whether on the shoes themselves or encased in the box the footwear comes in. As many fans of the franchise know, amber is very significant to the story of Jurassic World as John Hammond and Henry Wu used the mosquitoes trapped in amber to retrieve the dinosaur DNA that made the modern versions of their dinosaurs possible.
The reveal that Reebok is rolling out Jurassic World sneakers is just another marketing collaboration in a long line of the company’s history with the franchise. Bloody Disgusting reports that the shoe company sold a Jurassic Park-themed line of shoes in 2021 in the lead-up to Jurassic World Dominion’s release. The entire collection for this new shoe line will include The Answer DMX, Zig Kinetica 2.5, a Classic Leather Ripple, Beatnik, Club C Revenge, LX2200, and the Nano X2 Adventure. The shoes will retail for anywhere between $100 to $200 and will be available to purchase starting August 25th. This may line up nicely if Jurassic World Dominion is made available through Universal’s streaming service, Peacock, around that time.
Reebok’s decision to sell Jurassic World sneakers comes at a time when Jurassic World Dominion is closing out its time at the global box office. A hit with audiences but not so much with critics, Jurassic World Dominion has so far grossed roughly $975 million against a budget of about $185 million. Rotten Tomatoes currently ranks the movie with a paltry 30% on its Tomatometer based on 380 critic reviews. In comparison, their Audience Score sits at a 77% ranking among over 10,000 verified ratings to the site. The latest effort from Universal to squeeze out any nostalgia from the first set of Jurassic Park films starred Pratt and Howard alongside original franchise actors Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and Sam Neill. Longtime franchise actor BD Wong also reprised his role as the aforementioned Dr. Henry Wu.
