The HBO Max series Titans have given us our first look at Jason Todd’s Red Hood in the show’s upcoming third season.
At the DC FanDome event this summer, it was announced that Curran Walters, who plays Jason Todd on Titans, would be donning the outfit of Red Hood in the show’s third season. In this new season, Red Hood will become obsessed with taking down his old team. TVLine presented the first look of the character, which is geared up with pads and metal boots, two guns, a leather jacket, and of course, a red hood that hangs over his red mask. This take on the character is particularly intimidating, with whited-out eyes and an intimidating stance.
Red Hood isn’t the only new addition coming to the third season of Titans. Damaris Lewis, who made her first appearance in a handful of Season Two episodes, is becoming a series regular as Blackfire. Season Three will also see the addition of Barbara Gordon, the former Batgirl who is now the Commissioner of the Gotham City Police Department. The latest season will also bring Dr. Crane aka Scarecrow into this world. Crane will be arrested at Arkham Asylum, yet will act as a sort of consultant to the Gotham Police Department. Neither the role of Barbara Gordon or Dr. Crane has been cast yet.
While on Titans, Red Hood will be played by Jason Todd, the character has been an alias used by several characters. The first iteration of the character back in 1951 was a master criminal who hid under the Red Hood alias, but that man would go on to become the Joker. In the Batman ’66 comic series, the character was played by Professor Anders Overbeck, a psychiatrist who was brainwashed by the Joker.
The character has already appeared in several different incarnations apart from the comics, including episodes of Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Teen Titans Go!, and two different versions of the Red Hood Gang appeared in Fox’s Gotham series. The character has also appeared in several video game series, including Injustice, Lego Batman, and in several of the Batman: Arkham games. Jason Todd’s Red Hood will also be one of the main playable characters in the upcoming Gotham Knights game coming out in 2021.
With the DC Universe Infinity streaming service coming to an end on January 21, 2021, DC’s many series on that platform will be moving over to HBO Max. Already, the service has a ton of DC content, including Harley Quinn, Doom Patrol, HBO’s Watchmen series, and a ton of DC live-action and animated programs, as well as the pre-Red Hood seasons of Titans.
DC has a ton of upcoming content landing on HBO Max in addition to the new Red Hood season of Titans. Next year alone, HBO Max is planning to debut DC Super Hero High, a series centered around Green Lantern, Justice League Dark, and all four episodes of Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
Titans’ new additions, from Red Hood to Barbara Gordon and Scarecrow make the anticipation for the new season even greater, and this first look at Red Hood’s costume makes us very excited for the upcoming season.
