Rebel Ridge Is The Netflix Crime Thriller We Can’t Wait To See, Here’s The Proof

Running into a hornet’s nest of corruption, Terry Richmond (Aaron Pierre) ends up in a standoff with the corrupt police force of a small town in Rebel Ridge. After an attempt to post bail goes sideways, an action-packed struggle against the crooked cops that run a small-town sheriff’s office unfolds. The cops are the bad guys in this crime thriller from Netflix, and the former marine-turned-crusader must prevail to save his cousin and take down the extortionate gang of law enforcement thugs.

The action quickly snowballs as the protagonist, Terry Richmond, is thwarted in trying to pay a cousin’s bail. With officers seizing his cash, Terry attempts to report the theft but isn’t able to get anywhere, getting kicked out of the sheriff’s office and told to leave town. As the dirty cops try to cover up their crime ring, Terry uses his Marine Corps skill to challenge their unchecked power on a backdrop of small-town America.

Commentators are already comparing Rebel Ridge to First Blood, and the bullet-strewn crime thriller is already gaining acclaim for the recent release of its trailer on Netflix.

Written and directed by Jeremy Saulnier of Hold the Dark fame, Rebel Ridge promises to be a new take on the crime thriller theme. Jeremy Saulnier’s ability to spin tense, off-putting tales is showcased in his episodes of True Detective (Season 3, episodes 1 and 2), as well as in his 2007 horror comedy, Murder Party, but this new project will likely give viewers a larger dose of action than his previous films. Fans and critics alike await Saulnier’s take on a classic little-guy-vs-the-system story.

Rebel Ridge will likely include excellent performances from a cast led by Aaron Pierre, most famous for his role as Cesar in the miniseries The Underground Railroad. Chief Sandy Burnne, the head corrupt cop, is played by Don Johnson of Miami Vice, and AnnaSophia Robb, best known for Little Fires Everywhere, plays friendly court clerk Summer McBride. David Denman (Bosch: Legacy) and Emory Cohen ( The Bikeriders) play thug cops Officer Evan Marston and Officer Steve Lann.

While Rebel Ridge definitely packs a more Guns and Amo vibe than his previous films, some of the key aspects of Saulnier’s core shine through in the trailer.

The anticipation has built for Rebel Ridge as fans anxiously await Jeremy Saulnier’s first film since Hold the Dark was released in 2018. Enthusiastic anticipation of the film has been widespread since it was announced in 2019, and if the reception the trailer is getting is any indication, Rebel Ridge will likely be an instant hit.

When shooting was interrupted in 2020, first by COVID and then by the abrupt departure of the original lead, John Boyega, it was unclear if production on Rebel Ridge would continue.

While Rebel Ridge definitely packs a more Guns and Amo vibe than his previous films, some of the key aspects of Saulnier’s core shine through in the trailer. Taking on complex subjects like a police conspiracy calls Green Room’s take on drug-running neo-nazi crime organizations to mind. The focus and determination of the protagonist, Terry Richmond, also recall the intrepid and determined Chris Sharp of Murder Party.

When shooting was interrupted in 2020, first by COVID and then by the abrupt departure of the original lead, John Boyega, it was unclear if production on Rebel Ridge would continue. However, following these production nightmares, filming continued with the addition of Aaron Pierre as Terry Richmond as a new lead, allowing the project to continue. The long-awaited crime thriller is set to air on Netflix on September 6.
