Reacher Season 3 Makes Big Switch After Paramount TV Cancelled

By Jacob VanGundy | Published

With the recent announcement that Paramount is dissolving Paramount Television Studios, Reacher Season 3 will be going through some big changes, at least behind the scenes. It’s one of many shows that will be affected by the studio closing, though exactly what those changes will be is hard to predict. For now, it seems fans can rest easy that the show will continue, but there may be some major creative changes on the horizon.

A New Studio

The major behind-the-scenes change for Reacher Season 3 is that it will now be produced by CBS Studios rather than Paramount Television Studios. With new management behind the show, more direct changes to the show could be on the way. With different budgetary needs and creative priorities, the show could see changes for numerous reasons.

Top To Bottom Changes Could Take Place

Reacher Season 3 could see changes in creative directions and, more likely, production schedule changes. Personnel could be shuffled as part of the move between studios due to changes in show budgets and reworked contracts, which could create significant creative shifts. With such a major behind-the-scenes change, production schedules will likely change, possibly delaying the new season.

Reacher Has Been A Hit For Amazon

Based on the novels by Lee Child, Reacher is a major hit on Amazon Prime going into Season 3. It stars Alan Richson as Jack Reacher, a former member of the Army’s military police, who wanders America being thrust into adventures. The show is part military action thriller and part police procedural, with the first season centered around Jack being falsely accused of murder, but the second focused more on his military past.

The popularity of Reacher may shield it from the most serious changes as it goes into Season 3. While cancellations are common in these types of situations, the fact that it is one of the biggest shows on Amazon Prime will likely prevent that from happening. However, fans should be on the lookout for more news about the show as it changes hands between studios.

Company Wide Restructuring

The changes to Reacher Season 3 are part of a company-wide streamlining by Paramount as part of its merger with Skydance. Corporate consolidation in the entertainment world has created many similar situations in recent years, such as Disney’s acquisition of Fox. As theatrical releases and streaming platforms struggle to adapt to the post-pandemic landscape, this type of turmoil seems to be the new normal.

Of course, several other projects will be affected by this change as well. Other shows being moved to CBS Studios for production include the fan-favorite Time Bandits and the upcoming Cross. While less established, those shows will be in the same nebulous position as Reacher Season 3 as they go into their sophomore seasons.

Major Studio Shake Ups Are Becoming More Common

The last few years have been incredibly tumultuous within the entertainment industry, and major studios seem to be absorbed or dissolved every few months. Unfortunately, projects like Reacher Season 3 get caught up in these corporate shake-ups, resulting in unexpected changes. Hopefully, the beloved show can continue to thrive under CBS Studios, but it’s almost impossible to predict how these changes will impact the show.
