Apple TV+ plus just hit us with the trailer for Black Bird, an upcoming TV miniseries featuring Taron Egerton, Paul Walter Hauser, and Ray Liotta in one of his last roles. The trailer paints a foreboding picture, as we see Egerton’s character navigating dangerous territory in a maximum-security prison. Check out the trailer below:
Ray Liotta will be playing Big Jim Keene, the father of Taron Egerton’s Jimmy Keene. Jimmy is sentenced to a decade in prison, but he has the chance to get a deal and get out early if he helps the FBI keep a serial killer in jail by befriending the killer and finding out where he hid the bodies of 18 women. Paul Walter Hauser plays Larry Hall, the serial killer in question. The show will also star Greg Kinnear, Sepideh Moafi, Robert Diago DoQui, Joe Williamson, Alexander Babara, and more. Black Bird is created by Dennis Lehane and based on the book In With The Devil: A Fallen Hero, A Serial Killer, and A Dangerous Bargain for Redemption by James Keene and Hillel Levin.
Ray Liotta passed last month at the age of 67. The beloved actor was best known for his work in the classic Scorcese film Goodfellas. Though Black Bird will be one of the last projects we see from Liotta, it seems he was pretty busy filming in the last couple of years, as there are still more projects to come that will feature Liotta. Some of these projects have a question mark on them as far as the extent of Liotta’s role, while others have confirmed that they have all filming for his parts completed. Black Bird was one of these projects and another is Cocaine Bear. Cocaine Bear is a film directed by Elizabeth Banks about a drug runner whose plane crashes with a load of cocaine, which is then eaten by a black bear that goes on a rampage. The movie is written by Jimmy Warden and also stars O’Shea Jackson Jr, Keri Russell, Margo Martindale, Alden Ehrenreich, and more.
One of the bigger question marks on his upcoming project list is the indie film, Dangerous Waters. Ray Liotta passed away in his sleep while filming this movie in the Dominican Republic. The movie is in post-production, so presumably part of Liotta’s role will make it in the movie in some capacity. It’s unclear if the role has been pared down and if all of his scenes were filmed. Dangerous Waters is directed by John Barr who wrote the story, which was adapted for the screen by Mark Jackson. The movie is a thriller about a young girl discovering the dark past of her mother’s new boyfriend on a sailing holiday. In addition to Liotta, it also stars Eric Dane, Odeya Rush, and Saffron Burrows. Other films with a question mark for Liotta’s role are the Charlie Day-directed El Tonto, the drama centered around the Rodney King post-verdict uprising April 29, 1992, and The Substance. You can catch Black Bird when it premieres on Apple TV+ on July 8.
