Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness is going to be one wild ride, but with all of the nutty rumors we have heard regarding the casting, there has been one actor and character that has been suspiciously missing in all of the discussion. Finally, it looks like we have confirmation on their return.
Deadline has the report that Rachel McAdams will be returning as Christine Palmer in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It is unclear how substantial her role will be in the sequel, but considering that she was the main romantic interest for Stephen Strange in the original film, it is expected that she will continue to play a crucial role in the plot moving forward. The movie will also co-star Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch. Could the two of them end up butting heads?
The reason this news is particularly notable is that there have been a lot of rumblings that Rachel McAdams did not want to return as Christine Palmer in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Exactly why these rumors started and what McAdams’s supposed hesitations were are unclear, but if there were any issues with her return, it looks like they have been ironed out as of now. Perhaps Christine Palmer didn’t have as sizable a role to play in the sequel and her part has been expanded? Who knows!
What one should really take away from this news is that Rachel McAdams will be in another movie and that alone is cause enough for celebration. McAdams is an extremely talented actress who can bring a spark of excitement to pretty much any project she is attached to. Her most recent starring effort, Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga (read our review), was burdened by Will Ferrell, but McAdams shined through. It is almost certain that she will be just as enjoyable in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
It will be interesting to see if Rachel McAdams sticks around after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. In the comics, Christine Palmer is one of a few characters who end up taking on the title of Night Nurse. Will she be gaining that moniker in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness? In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Claire Temple has mostly been given the Night Nurse duties that the character gets in the comic book canon. But, it is unclear if Rosario Dawson will ever return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Claire Temple. Could Christine Palmer replace her as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s official Night Nurse?
Regardless, it is great to hear that Rachel McAdams will be back as Christine Palmer in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The actress did not deserve to be discarded in between movies, and we hope that Christine Palmer will see herself be a prominent part of the upcoming sequel. Considering just how ridiculous Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness sounds like it is going to be, we really are keeping our fingers crossed that McAdams does not get lost in the multiverse shuffle.
