Quentin Tarantino’s Best Film, Stream Without Netflix

By Chris Snellgrove | Updated

Picking a favorite Quentin Tarantino film is a bit like picking your favorite child: you’re supposed to say you love them all but one is clearly better than the others. In this director’s case, the best of his films is still the relentlessly stylish Pulp Fiction, a film that literally changed the way movies are made. And if you want to revisit a piece of Tarantino and film history, you can stream Pulp Fiction through Amazon Prime Video and Paramount+.

Non-Linear Storytelling In Top Form

Pulp Fiction 1994

Pulp Fiction tells several stories at once and out of chronological order. This includes tales of robbers, hitmen, and fighters. This unconventional method of storytelling could have been a confusing mess in the hands of another director, but Tarantino managed to tell many brilliantly written narratives that came together in a compellingly coherent whole.

A big part or what makes Pulp Fiction so great is the top-notch cast, including John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson as a pair of hitmen. Ving Rhames plays a crime boss and Uma Thurman plays his aspiring actress wife. Bruce Willis plays a boxer, and the movie has a entire constellation of supporting stars, including Christopher Walken, Tim Roth, and Harvey Keitel.

Worthy Of Its Accolades

At the box office, Pulp Fiction made a huge splash: against a budget of about $8.5 million, the movie went on to earn $213.9 million. It also wowed critics and currently has a 92 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics generally praised the movie for its great dialogue and singled Quentin Tarantino out as a visionary director clearly destined for greatness.

Certainly, “greatness” is the right word for this movie when you consider how many awards it won. Pulp Fiction was nominated for six Golden Globes and took home the prize for Best Screenplay. It was similarly nominated for seven Academy Awards and took home an Oscar for Best Screenplay – Written Directly for the Screen.

Pulp Fiction Is A Serious Gourmet Viewing Experience

Pulp Fiction 1994

As for me, I love Pulp Fiction for all the usual reasons: the dialogue is dazzling, the kind of stuff you spend your entire life quoting. The performances are inspired, particularly Samuel L. Jackson (it’s instantly apparent why this film immediately transformed his career). And the movie’s out-of-order storytelling makes the whole thing feel like a puzzle that actually pays off, unlike frustrating “mystery box” storytelling from modern directors like JJ Abrams.

Gets Better Every Single Time You Watch It

Pulp Fiction 1994

Speaking of the movie’s defiance of chronological order, it’s fun to revisit Pulp Fiction because there’s always something new to appreciate. At the risk of sounding even more like a Quentin Tarantino fanboy, this movie cements that he is the real deal … someone capable of writing fiercely original screenplays and bringing them to life in equally innovative ways. Every time I watch this film, I realize there’s a reason so many other directors have tried to bite the man’s style: he’s just that good.
