Quentin Tarantino is making headlines again, this time teasing his involvement in a new eight-episode series set to release in the upcoming year. According to Variety, Tarantino revealed the project while promoting his recent book Cinema Speculation, the Jackie Brown director’s first nonfiction work containing essays on films that have impacted him.

The Once Upon Time…In Hollywood director dropped this news but didn’t offer up information regarding the plot, genre, or which network will be airing the series. The new series won’t be his first foray into TV, as Quentin Tarantino directed a two-part story in season 5 of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation in 2005 and an episode of ER in 1995.

Early in 2022, he was reportedly in talks to direct Justified: City Primeval, a revival of the Timothy Olyphant lead series Justified. There have been conflicting reports regarding his involvement in this project, and it seems Tarantino is no longer involved. Quentin Tarantino had also pitched an idea to J.J. Abrams to direct a Star Trek entry but later scraped that idea.

During his appearance on Real Time with Bill Maher, he was asked about the differences between writing a screenplay and a film. He stated that with the film, he puts his all into writing the script, then has to put on his director hat and actually make what he created, whereas with a book, you write it, and it’s done.

Quentin Tarantino has often completed a screenplay and thought he should publish it because he put so much effort into it, and no one besides the actors will ever read it. He went on to say that he loves making movies and if you are in a position to make movies that give you the freedom to make it how you want, there is hardly a better job out there.

The book tour began in Los Angeles in early November and concluded in New York this week. Fans of Quentin Tarantino’s work will enjoy the content in Cinema Speculation. The writer and director analyzes films from his childhood that shaped him into the filmmaker seen today. Centered on critical movies from the 1970s, he criticizes, theorizes, reports, and shares the personal history of his early movie-going experiences.

If you are a fan of Quentin Tarantino, don’t miss his podcast, Video Archives, where he and Roger Avary, joined by announcer Gala Avary revisit classics while discovering new favorites. Back in the day of the video store, Tarantino and Avary worked at the original Video Archives location and recommended movies ranging from controversial to exploitation flicks. The podcast featured the duo discussing films you may have never heard of while rating and awarding their favorites.

It will be exciting to see what series Quentin Tarantino is tied to, as it will undoubtedly be something unique. He never seems to involve himself in something mediocre, and as one of the trusted voices in cinema for what makes a movie great, the new series will likely follow suit. Keep watching for more information on Tarantino’s new project.
