Princess Bride and Homeland star Mandy Patinkin is on the front lines for the WGA writer’s strike, and his impassioned plea for writers to get their due is going viral on Twitter. In the brief video, Patinkin can be seen holding a sign that says “You Killed Residuals Prepare to Pay” while speaking to an unseen person saying, “Make sure you take care of people,” adding, “Without the writers, we have nothing!” Take a look at Patinkin’s full speech below:

Mandy Patinkin is far from the only actor out supporting the Writer’s Guild of America strike, as he was also seen protesting alongside Better Call Saul‘s, Bob Odenkirk. Other actors who have been seen on the front lines include Adam Scott, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jack Mulcahy, Michael Emerson, Carrie Preston, John Leguizamo, Doris Dear, and many more. The picket lines have been happening across major cities like Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago.

Mandy Patinkin and many other workers in Hollywood are supporting the Writer’s Guild of America after negotiations fell through with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. The WGA went on strike over several key points, including increased compensation and residuals, health plan increases, regulations on AI, and other key issues regarding the future of the industry. This is the first time the WGA has started a major strike since the 2007-08 strike.

Mandy Patinkin’s statements are spot-on because the last time the WGA went on strike, the movie and TV industry was changed, and the LA economy reportedly took a $2.1 billion hit. The strike lasted 100 days before the WGA eventually got a share of digital revenue, i.e. shows and movies being sold over the Internet. With streaming more prevalent than ever, the current WGA strike faces a similar battle.

The WGA strike’s effects typically cascade from late-night shows stopping production to the fall TV schedule getting delayed. Depending on how long the WGA strike goes on, shows scheduled even further in the year could also be delayed. When Mandy Patinkin said, “Without the writers, we have nothing,” he wasn’t wrong.

It remains to be seen if this WGA strike will affect either of Mandy Patinkin’s upcoming shows. Patinkin has one on the way from Hulu titled Career Opportunities in Murder and Mayhem and one from Showtime titled Seasoned. Both shows have yet to announce a release date, so it’s likely we won’t know if they’re delayed or not.

Career Opportunities in Murder and Mayhem stars Mandy Patinkin as the world’s once greatest detective Rufus Cotesworth while Violett Beane plays his protege Imogene. The series follows the two as they attempt to solve a murder on an ocean liner in the Mediterranean. Hulu ordered ten episodes of the series, and it also stars Lauren Patten, Rahul Kohli, Angela Zhou, Hugo Diego Garcia, and Pardis Saremi.

Mandy Patinkin’s Seasoned is a half-hour comedy that stars Patinkin and his wife, Kathryn Grody, in a show inspired by their real life and relationship. The series is co-created and co-written by Ewen Wright along with the couple’s son Gideon Grody-Patinkin. The pilot for the series was filmed in July.
