After her appearance in Fox’s Predator prequel Prey, actress Amber Midthunder is hoping to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While speaking with Variety at the Newport Beach Film Festival, Midthunder discussed her enthusiasm for the wider Marvel universe Kevin Fiege has created. The actress kept quiet, however, on whom she’d like to play if she were ever to be cast in an MCU project.
“I’m definitely a big MCU fan,” she said. “I’ve always loved the X-Men movies, all the Avengers movies…We’ll talk about (who I could play) later.” If Amber Midthunder were to join the MCU, it would be her second time in a Marvel project. The actress previously starred in the FX series Legion as Kerry Loudermilk, a mutant who lived inside a scientist named Cary Loudermilk.
The FX series is outside of the larger MCU; however, Amber Midthunder could reprise her character from Legion in the upcoming Marvel movie Deadpool 3. The sequel is set to bring back famed X-Men actor Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Plus, there is the multiverse at play in the MCU.
Deadpool 3 could possibly bring in many actors and actresses from previous X-Men projects. Fans could see Amber Midthunder and her former co-star Dan Stevens return for a quick cameo. Legion was always said to have taken place in an alternate timeline from the Fox X-Men series, yet that doesn’t mean characters from that universe wouldn’t be able to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Considering how meta the Deadpool franchise is, it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to have Amber Midthunder’s Legion character interact with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Deadpool 3 is getting attention for having Jackman return, and the hype for the film is through the roof. If the writers decide to add more X-Men-related cameos in the sequel, then it will just make longtime fans of the series even more excited than they already are.
There are other roles for Amber Midthunder in the Marvel universe that she could take on. The upcoming Fantastic Four is shrouded in secrecy, and no one outside of the folks at Marvel really knows who’s been cast. Midthunder could be a terrific candidate, however, for a younger Sue Storm. That all depends on which interpretation of Marvel’s first family the MCU wants to adapt on the big screen.
Regarding other X-Men-related projects, some fans online believe Amber Midthunder could play Wolverine’s daughter X-23 in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The character had a significant presence in Hugh Jackman’s last hurrah as the superhero mutant in 2017’s Logan. While actress Dafne Keen portrayed the character in that film, a newer version of her could be introduced in whatever incarnation of the X-Men Kevin Feige and Marvel choose to adapt.
Whatever role she might be cast in, Amber Midthunder has many opportunities in front of her besides Marvel. The 25-year-old has starred in the 2021 Liam Neeson action thriller The Ice Road. She’s also known for her work in the CW’s new adaptation of Roswell, New Mexico.
Her performance in Prey was praised by former Predator actor Jesse Ventura and others. The movie currently sits at 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, with many proclaiming it the best Predator movie in ages. We’ll have to see if Amber Midthunder does get the Marvel phone call.
