Prehistoric Adventure With Marvel Stars Stuns On Peacock
If you’re looking for something to stream this weekend that will be fun for the entire family, you really can’t go wrong with the 2013 animated outing The Croods. The film offers a surprising cast of A-list performers, a lot of heart, and enough prehistoric puns to turn your groans into genuine chuckles. If you’re interested in checking The Croods out today, the film is currently streaming on Peacock.
Meet The Croods
For those unfamiliar with the film, The Croods follows a titular family of prehistoric cavemen from the humorously named “Croodaceous period,” as they navigate the pitfalls of early man. At first, the family believes that their small cave is all that the world has to offer, until a natural disaster causes them to flee for the very first time into the outside world.
From there, the children of the Crood family, Eep, Thunk, and Sandy, are quite taken with the lush greenery and various animal life, and become obsessed with the idea of exploring their newfound surroundings.
The Croods Meet Guy
The much more conservative family patriarch, Nicolas Cage’s Grug, fears for his children’s safety and attempts to force the family back into a cave, though the inherent human curiosity of a grander world has already infected their imaginations.
Eventually, the Croods stumble upon a modern-ish human named Guy, who left his cave to explore the surrounding lands years earlier. Unlike the eponymous family, Guy is quite tech savvy, and highly aware of the plant, animal life, and numerous dangers which surround him. He also has a knack for crafting whacky inventions, which the Croods eventually use for farming and agriculture, animal taming, and other early versions of modern living.
A Family Favorite
The Croods is an exceptionally solid movie for kids and families, and has become something of a cult classic since its release. Despite taking in massive figures at the global box office, the film was sort of eclipsed by the release of several other massive animated films such as Monsters University and Frozen. Despite living in the shadow of these other outings, The Croods has since expanded into numerous sequels and spin-offs and even a few video games.
An A-List Cast
Part of the film’s popularity can no doubt be attributed to the ensemble cast of talented A-listers, which includes Nic Cage, Emma Stone, Catherine Keener, Cloris Leachman, Hot Tub Time Machine‘s Clark Duke, and even Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds. The filmmaking team of Chris Sanders and Kirk DeMicco serve as the writers and directors of The Croods, with an additional writing credit to Monty Python legend John Cleese. The smooth animation style and unique character designs also help the film to stand out, making each iteration of The Croods instantly recognizable.
