Pom Klementieff Coming To The DC Universe?
James Gunn seems to be hinting at future casting for his DCU projects currently in development. Per a post by the filmmaker and DC creative head on Threads, James Gunn is not interested in featuring Chris Pratt or Pom Klementieff in small cameo appearances as themselves in the DCU. While he does not explicitly state that he has plans to feature these or other Guardians of the Galaxy actors in his upcoming films, it seems clear that he has something bigger than a brief, fan-service cameo planned for them.
James Gunn has included jokey cameos in his past films, but his answer to a fan on Threads implies something larger is planned for Pom Klementieff and Chris Pratt.
This seems to all but confirm previous rumors which have circulated regarding Gunn’s intention to bring some of his favorite Marvel collaborators with him to the DCU. Gunn previously worked with both Chris Pratt and Pom Klementieff in his Guardians of the Galaxy film trilogy with Marvel and received a great deal of internal support from his performers when he faced controversy with the Disney corporation.
As many fans may recall, James Gunn was fired by Disney back in 2018 after a number of old Tweets (now X’s) were released in which the filmmaker engaged in highly crude and offensive humor. While nearly every Marvel actor that had worked with Gunn up to that point seemed to release public statements expressing their full support for him during that difficult time, Pom Klementieff and Drax’s Dave Bautista were among the most voracious.
Pom Klementieff has specifically stated in interviews with the press that she has had private discussions with James Gunn about potentially joining the DCU, though nothing has been confirmed yet.
Of course, a year later, it was announced that James Gunn had been hired back to helm the third and final installment of his Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, but by that point, the corporate heads at Warner Brothers had already made other plans.
In 2022 it was officially announced that Gunn would no longer be working with Marvel after concluding his trilogy, stepping away instead to helm the entire creative vision of the newly rebooted DC cinematic universe, sparking early rumors that Pom Klementieff and other MCU actors would be soon to follow.
Pom Klementieff has specifically stated in interviews with the press that she has had private discussions with James Gunn about potentially joining the DCU, though nothing has been confirmed yet.
Of course, these plans could become complicated due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which threaten to prevent any active productions from shooting or moving forward at this time. Though his IMDb only holds upcoming writing and directing credits for one DC film, Superman: Legacy, Gunn’s status as creative head of DC seemingly provides him with carte blanche regarding casting.
James Gunn has already cast one of his collaborators, Nathan Fillion, in the DCU, making it likely that Pom Klementieff and the other Guardians stars won’t be far behind.
Still, The Suicide Squad filmmaker seems to prefer to work with a revolving door of tight-knit performers, leaving fans fairly certain that Pom Klementieff, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, and many others may soon appear in DC films. In an encouraging show of grace, Gunn has also gone on record to state that DC’s success does not detract from the success of Marvel, demonstrating his ability to reach across the aisle to forge positive connections with creators and studio heads from both major franchises.
